The Maintenance Fleet Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily maintenance, repair, and availability of company-owned vehicles and mobile equipment supporting manufacturing operations. This role operates within a unionized environment and ensures fleet reliability, safety, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective operations while minimizing downtime that could impact production, logistics, or material flow. The supervisor works closely with maintenance technicians, union representatives, manufacturing leadership, and external vendors to support safe and efficient plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Maintenance & Operations

• Supervise day-to-day maintenance, inspection, and repair activities for fleet assets including trucks, trailers, vans, forklifts, golf carts, and other mobile or industrial equipment.
• Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturing priorities.
• Monitor fleet condition, availability, and utilization to support production and logistics needs.
• Respond to urgent repairs or breakdowns to minimize operational disruption.

Supervision in a Unionized Environment

• Lead and direct fleet maintenance technicians in accordance with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs).
• Assign work orders, prioritize tasks, and manage daily schedules while adhering to union rules and labor agreements.
• Collaborate with union representatives and Human Resources on attendance, discipline, performance issues, and work-rule interpretation.
• Support training, job qualification, and skills development for union maintenance employees.

Safety, Compliance & Standards

• Ensure fleet maintenance activities comply with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and company safety policies.
• Promote safe work practices and ensure technicians follow established safety procedures and lockout/tagout requirements.
• Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, and compliance records.
• Support audits, inspections, and corrective action plans related to fleet, safety, or regulatory compliance.

Vendor, Parts & Inventory Coordination

• Coordinate with outside repair vendors and service providers for specialized or overflow work.
• Assist with ordering, tracking, and managing parts and materials related to fleet maintenance.
• Monitor vendor performance, quality of repairs, and turnaround time.

Reporting & Communication

• Communicate fleet status, maintenance issues, and priorities to manufacturing, logistics, and facilities leadership.
• Prepare and update maintenance logs, downtime reports, and basic performance metrics.
• Participate in cross-functional meetings and safety committee discussions as required.

Continuous Improvemen t

• Identify opportunities to improve fleet reliability, maintenance processes, and cost efficiency.
• Support standardized work and continuous improvement initiatives within the maintenance department.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in automotive, diesel, or industrial maintenance preferred.
• Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of experience in fleet or equipment maintenance in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Previous supervisory experience in a unionized manufacturing environment strongly preferred.

Technical & Professional Skills

• Working knowledge of vehicle and industrial equipment maintenance practices.
• Basic understanding of preventive maintenance programs and compliance requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret work orders, maintenance manuals, and safety procedures.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including interaction with union leadership and management.

Computer Skills

• Basic to intermediate proficiency in computer systems, including maintenance databases or CMMS, email, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Physical, Licensing & Compliance Requirements

• Ability to work in a manufacturing, warehouse, and outdoor environment.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, and move throughout the facility to perform essential job functions.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 pounds , with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to safely operate company vehicles, forklifts, and golf carts as required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license .
• Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment and ongoing background checks and drug testing in accordance with company policy and applicable laws.
