Grants and Financial Specialist

Job Description Position Purpose – The Grants and Financial Specialist independently manages all matters pertaining to grants administration, both financial and administrative, and has financial oversight and administrative responsibility for sponsored projects. This role provides high-level comprehensive pre‑ and post‑award management, subcontract administration, and financial analysis, acting as the administrative liaison between the administrative core, the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP), collaborating institutions, sponsoring agencies, and principal investigators (PIs). Responsibilities • Independently manage pre‑ and post‑award financial and administrative matters for sponsored projects.• Conduct financial analysis and oversee grant budgets and expenditures.• Administer subcontract agreements and ensure compliance with sponsor and institutional policies.• Serve as the primary liaison among the OSP, collaborating institutions, sponsors, and investigators.• Respond to sponsor inquiries and facilitate timely resolution of financial or administrative issues.• Prepare and review award documents, reports, and financial statements.• Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with OMB circulars and institutional standards.• Communicate project status, financial data, and key updates to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree required; a degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field preferred. Experience: 2–4 years in research administration or accounting/financial/budgeting, including experience with federal and non‑federal grant proposal preparation. Technical Skills: Proficient in Excel (data manipulation), Google Docs, and a grants management system such as InfoEd/Coeus; familiarity with eRA Commons, NSF Fastlane, Research.gov, and/or Grants.gov is preferred. Knowledge: Understanding of OMB circulars and institutional financial policies. Competencies: Excellent financial analytical ability, strong problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines. Communication: Clear oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information succinctly. Organizational: Strong time‑management, critical‑thinking, and prioritization skills, maintaining attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment. Additional: Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional outside normal business hours to meet sponsor deadlines.
