REMOTE Self-Insured Billing Data Analyst in MN

Data Analyst

We are seeking a Data Analyst to support a major modernization initiative within the Billing domain of a large health plan organization. This team is transforming a long-standing self-insured billing platform and migrating critical billing data, processes, and reporting capabilities from a traditional data warehouse environment into a modern lakehouse architecture.

This role will focus heavily on healthcare billing, financial analysis, data validation, and supporting business operations tied to self-funded employer groups, claims processing, and stop-loss programs. Accuracy and attention to detail are critical, as the data directly impacts financial calculations and billing outcomes.

Analyze healthcare billing and financial data to support ongoing business operations and transformation initiatives.

Validate and reconcile complex billing calculations and financial transactions.

Support migration efforts from legacy SQL/Oracle-based data warehouse environments into a modern data lakehouse platform.

Partner with business stakeholders to understand billing processes, group setup requirements, policy renewals, and stop-loss arrangements.

Investigate data discrepancies and ensure accuracy across billing inputs, outputs, and downstream reporting.

Support weekly operational activities involving financial calculations, billing adjustments, and data quality validation.

Work closely with data engineering, application development, and business teams supporting billing platforms and administrative systems.

Translate business requirements into meaningful data analysis and actionable insights.

Skills and Requirements

3+ years of experience as a Data Analyst at a health insurance company

Payer domain expertise in claims/billing data

Expertise in SQL

Strong communication and stakeholder partnership skills- Ability to work directly with business partners and explain data clearly, to tell stories with data/communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences Experience supporting self-funded or self-insured health plan products.

Knowledge of stop-loss programs and employer group billing.

Experience with Oracle databases, PL/SQL, or legacy data warehouse environments.

Exposure to modern data lake, lakehouse, or cloud data platforms.

Familiarity with healthcare financial operations and premium billing processes.

Working Azure Databricks experience

Exposure to agile/scrum (including tools like JIRA)

Relevant certifications (Azure Databricks, Python, Cloud, etc)
