Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician performs mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on industrial production and processing machinery. This role focuses on diagnosing equipment issues, restoring operations quickly, and ensuring machines meet safety and performance standards in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on industrial production and processing machinery, including bearings, conveyors, sprockets, pumps, and related components.
• Work with electrical systems up to 480V, including 3-phase motor controls, low-voltage controls, motor drives, contactors, and Allen Bradley drives.
• Diagnose and repair issues involving pneumatics, hydraulics, HVAC equipment, and other industrial systems to maintain reliable operations.
• Effectively complete preventive and proactive maintenance according to the established schedule to prevent equipment breakdowns and minimize unplanned downtime.
• Utilize root-cause analysis to investigate breakdowns and line stoppages, collaborating with other departments to identify and implement long-term corrective actions.
• Act as the initial responder when a production line stops, quickly assessing the situation and ensuring appropriate mechanical and electrical support is on site to restore operation.
• Prioritize maintenance, repair, and installation tasks for equipment, tools, and utility systems to support continuous manufacturing operations.
• Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage accurately in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Repair and maintain the operating condition of machinery and equipment, including inspection, assembly, disassembly, and replacement of parts as necessary.
• Observe and test the operation of machinery or equipment to diagnose malfunctions using voltmeters and other testing devices.
• Operate newly repaired machinery or equipment to verify the adequacy and safety of repairs before returning it to production.
• Analyze test results, machine error messages, and feedback from operators to identify and resolve equipment problems efficiently.
• Inspect operating machines and equipment to ensure they conform to operational and safety performance standards.
• Perform welding and fabrication tasks as needed to support equipment repair and modification.
• Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and PLC control diagrams when troubleshooting and repairing equipment.
• Communicate effectively with production, quality, and other support teams regarding equipment status, repair timelines, and any safety concerns.
• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working with mechanical, electrical, and industrial systems.
• Complete computer and administrative tasks related to maintenance work, including reporting, parts ordering, and documentation.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 2+ years of experience in industrial manufacturing maintenance.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on industrial equipment.
• Strong electrical and electronic troubleshooting and repair skills, including experience with 3-phase motor controls and low-voltage controls.
• Experience working with electricity up to 480V, including motor drives, contactors, and Allen Bradley drives.
• Hands-on experience with industrial maintenance, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatics, hydraulics, and HVAC systems.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical diagrams.
• Proficiency in using voltmeters and other electrical testing devices to diagnose equipment malfunctions.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance and repair on production and processing machinery.
• Demonstrated ability to perform PLC troubleshooting and work with PLC control systems.
• Capability to perform welding and basic fabrication for equipment repair and modification.
• Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple maintenance activities in a fast-paced setting.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to stand, walk, kneel, and bend for approximately 85% of the workday.
• Ability to perform computer and administrative work for approximately 15% of the workday.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and assigned shifts as needed.
• Successful completion of the Ramsey Mechanical (Electrical) Skills and Aptitude Assessment (Ramsey Test) as a condition of hire.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in industrial environments producing beverages or similar high-volume consumer products.
• Experience in industrial maintenance within large-scale manufacturing operations.
• Familiarity with service and repair of a wide range of industrial equipment, including conveyors, pumps, and packaging machinery.
• Experience with HVAC systems in an industrial setting.
• Comfort working with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for work orders and documentation.
• Knowledge of industrial safety standards and best practices.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative maintenance team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality in maintenance work.
• Adaptability to changing priorities and production demands.

Work Environment

This role is based in a large manufacturing facility with a somewhat climate-controlled environment that can be warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter. Maintenance Technicians work primarily on the production floor, moving between machinery and equipment throughout the shift. The position involves significant physical activity, including standing, walking, kneeling, and bending for most of the day, along with periodic computer and administrative tasks. Work is performed on second shift (approximately 2:45 p.m. to 11:15 p.m.) or third shift (approximately 10:45 p.m. to 6:15 a.m.), and flexibility in hours is expected to meet production needs. The facility uses a wide range of industrial technologies and equipment, including conveyors, pumps, motor controls, Allen Bradley drives, pneumatics, hydraulics, HVAC systems, and PLC-controlled machinery. Safety procedures are strictly followed, and attire is consistent with an industrial manufacturing environment, with appropriate personal protective equipment required when working with mechanical and electrical systems.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
