Associate Software Engineer

Responsibilities Associate Software Engineer for the Corporate Information Services Department responsible for design, development, and maintenance of UHS custom clinical applications, supporting existing Cerner and UHS applications, including upgrades and testing. Works independently on large projects, coordinates assignments to meet deadlines, uses Cerner’s Discern Visual Developer (CCL) and IDEs like Komodo, Notepad++. Monitors the resolution of maintenance or enhancement issues assigned by the UHS Customer Support Center, provides technical support, interfaces with user community, and collaborates with teammates. Key Responsibilities System Development & Implementation Meet regularly with users, IS staff and senior team members to develop/modify system specifications and maintain documentation. Design, develop and implement custom clinical system enhancements to meet user needs per UHS Project Development standards. Adhere to structured programming, analysis, and design techniques. Follow software development and version control policies and procedures, including use of a source code management system. Document, test and validate application functionality. Support application implementation and upgrades and prepare documentation. Identify potential system problems and propose solutions. Assist in recommending application solutions to meet business needs. Create and maintain effective program documentation. System Maintenance & Support Research and resolve Customer Support Center tickets. Provide support for major application upgrades. Maintain regular communications with user community. Provide technical support and guidance to other team members as required. Adhere to UHS Service Level and Change Management Policies. Provide on‑call support as scheduled. Project Administration Track and report project status and progress. Ensure strict adherence to work plans, reporting deviations to management. Adhere to UHS Project Management standards. Work with external support services, vendors, and consultants as needed. Administration Maintain Service Excellence principles. Prepare and submit status reports to supervisor as required. Prepare and promptly submit all routine and special reports. Keep management well informed of activities, needs, problems. Qualifications Position Requirements Minimum Associate’s degree in Computer Science/Information Systems (CS/IS) or equivalent real‑world development experience. Bachelor’s degree in CS/IS or equivalent real‑world experience preferred. One or more years of increasingly responsible programming, web or application development experience. Experience with HTML, JavaScript, CSS required; knowledge of databases and/or high‑level programming languages such as SQL or CCL a plus. Ability to multi‑task, manage time, meet deadlines; proficiency in English with excellent written and oral fluency. Basic knowledge of development standards, application validation, system implementation, enhancement, and support methods. Practical knowledge of troubleshooting, issue resolution, application development, implementation, enhancement, support methods and practices. Familiarity with health care and clinical terminology, project management methods, Agile development concepts a plus. Travel Requirements 0 – 5% domestic US travel depending on projects.
