Position Title: Dispatch Clerk-Transportation

Function: Transportation

Family: Operations

Reports to: Director Pay Grade: N05 Terms of 240 days per year. FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Employment: At-Will employment agreement. Salary is in the pay grade N05 on the Non-exempt SAISD Compensation Plan. Entry hourly rate is at $18.00 with consideration for directly related experience.

Funding This position is locally funded.

Position Summary: Ensure the efficient operation of the Transportation Department and dispatch office.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities:

• Dispatch district personnel to provide transportation services to all eligible students.
• Answering the phone and routing calls, taking accurate messages (if applicable) or redirecting calls to appropriate colleagues.
• Notifies supervisory personnel of any emergency situation or condition.
• Maintain and assist with operation of office equipment/machines as needed.
• Cross-train in other areas and other duties as assigned.
• Schedule meetings and appointments for administrative staff.
• Perform general office procedures including typing, filing, mail, duplication of materials, data processing, editing and general bookkeeping/recordkeeping.
• Assist with processing and dissemination of department reports, documents, as directed by administrator.
• Maintain general office files: save/store required documents per policy and administrative procedures.
• Initiate and complete accident/incident/other reports, as necessary.
• Participate in district and campus staff development programs that improve job related skills.
• Assist staff as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency.
• 3 years of work-related experience.

Preferred Requirements:

• Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy.
• Knowledge of routine office procedures to include customer service, telephone etiquette, efficient and effective filing and record keeping procedures.
• Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills; must have high level of integrity regarding department records.
• Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team to provide assistance to department staff.
• Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions with limited supervision.

Working Conditions Work Environment:

• Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
• Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.

Physical Demands/Requirements:

• Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines; frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, pulling and pushing; reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity and prolonged data input; occasional lift/carry light, moderate 15-44 pounds.
