Automation Technician - Auburn Hills, MI

1st OR 2nd Shift

Long-Term Contract to Direct Hire

About the Role:

We are seeking a Automation Systems Technician  to join our team assembling, integrating, testing, and troubleshooting robotic automation systems. This is a hands-on position ideal for someone with experience building automated equipment, working with industrial robots, and interpreting electrical and mechanical documentation.

You will work alongside engineering and manufacturing teams to build world-class automation systems from the ground up while ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and integrate robotic automation systems using engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
• Install, position, and secure industrial robots and associated automation equipment.
• Move and operate robots using a teach pendant.
• Load, update, and back up robot software.
• Teach simple robot paths and perform basic robot setup.
• Perform electrical and mechanical testing, system verification, and functional validation.
• Troubleshoot and debug electrical, mechanical, and automation issues.
• Disassemble and prepare equipment for shipment when required.
• Document all manufacturing processes and quality checks.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, organized work area.
• Follow all MIOSHA, Lockout/Tagout, Hazardous Material, and robot safety procedures.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Mechatronics, Automation Technology, Electrical Technology, or similar technical education preferred.
• 2-4 years of experience building, assembling, or troubleshooting automated equipment.
• Experience with industrial robots (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa, or similar) preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and engineering documentation.
• Experience with electrical component assembly, wiring, and testing.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Basic computer and math skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• NETA Certification is a plus.
