Senior or Lead BI Developer

Role Description

The Senior Business Intelligence Developer (Sr BI Developer) will support the needs of the business by designing, implementing, and maintaining data solutions across BI reporting, data integration, data extracts, governed datasets, and production data support. The primary focus of this role includes:

• Analyzing business requirements to design, develop, and update dashboards, reports, data extracts, ETL/ELT processes, data marts, and other BI solutions.
• Adhering to development, testing, change management, documentation, data governance, security, and operational support standards.
• Performing design, management, and administration of BI platforms, data processes, and reporting environments.
• Exploring emerging technologies to support and enhance BI and Data Services capabilities.
• Providing technical leadership to junior team members.

The Lead Business Intelligence Developer (Lead BI Developer) is responsible for:

• Designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting data solutions to support the needs of the business and the Data Services function.
• Analyzing business requirements to design, develop, and update dashboards, reports, data extracts, ETL/ELT processes, data marts, governed datasets, and other BI solutions.
• Providing technical direction, supporting operational readiness, mentoring junior team members, and acting as a subject matter expert for complex data and reporting initiatives.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience designing and supporting enterprise business intelligence, reporting, data integration, and analytics solutions.
• Strong SQL, dashboard/report development, ETL/ELT, data warehousing, and production support experience.

Requirements

Sr BI Developer Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Advanced skills writing SQL queries in Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or other industry-leading RDBMS.
• Advanced skills in creating reports and dashboards using Microsoft Reporting Services, Microsoft Power BI, Business Objects, Cognos, or other reporting tools.
• Strong skills creating ETL/ELT processes using Microsoft Integration Services or other data integration tools.
• Strong skills supporting data extracts, data integrations, data marts, governed datasets, and downstream reporting or analytics consumption.
• Competent skills designing and maintaining OLAP cubes, semantic layers, and data models using Microsoft Analysis Services or other tools.
• Strong skills with dimensional data modeling and data warehousing methodologies.
• Competent skills creating processes to assess and report data quality metrics, validation results, exceptions, and reconciliation outcomes.
• Working knowledge of production support practices including scheduling, orchestration, monitoring, incident triage, root cause analysis, and operational readiness.
• Experience writing effective technical specifications or other documentation, including source-to-target mappings, business rules, lineage, runbooks, and support procedures.
• Working knowledge of data governance, metadata, stewardship concepts, reporting governance, access controls, and secure handling of sensitive data.
• Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally with a wide range of audiences and maintain interpersonal relationships.
• Ability to persuade, negotiate, influence, and interact effectively with other people in the organization.
• Ability to work within time constraints and manage multiple tasks against critical deadlines.
• Ability to perform complex problem solving and apply critical thinking, deductive reasoning, and inductive reasoning to identify solutions.
• Ability to analyze systems, data flows, or processes to determine impacts of changes and perform root cause analysis.

Lead BI Developer Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Advanced skills creating ETL/ELT processes using Microsoft Integration Services, Informatica, or other data integration tools.
• Advanced skills supporting data extracts, data integrations, data marts, governed datasets, and downstream reporting or analytics consumption.
• Strong skills designing and maintaining OLAP cubes, semantic layers, and data models using Microsoft Analysis Services or other tools.
• Advanced skills with dimensional data modeling and data warehousing methodologies.
