The office consists of nearly 30 distinct sections that advocate for consumers and victims of crime, assist the criminal justice community, provide legal counsel for state offices and agencies, and enforce certain state laws. In these and other capacities, staff members interact with tens of thousands of Ohioans each year. Job Duties The Ohio Attorney General’s Collections Enforcement Section is one of the nation’s largest premier government collection practices representing more than 300 state agencies, institutions, boards, commissions, public university hospitals, as well as numerous political subdivisions to resolve and collect delinquent debts. The second largest section in the Ohio Attorney General’s office, we are a fast-paced, high-volume practice that utilizes both internal staff, external vendors, and Special Counsel to recover a variety of debts such as taxes, fines, university debts, and economic development loans. Most debts we collect are subject to statutory offset programs which are managed by the section. The Deputy Director of In-house Collections provides business services and counsel to clients and business operations staff of Collections and other sections of the office. Additionally, they are tasked with managing a team of customer service representatives who perform collection services for those clients. We are currently seeking a business manager with at least 3‑5 years’ experience in management. The candidate should possess strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively solve problems. The candidate must have the ability to manage a fast-paced high-volume practice by appropriately prioritizing tasks, using good judgment, and communicating effectively with their team. Experience in debt collection is preferred. This position will work a hybrid in‑person/remote schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The headquarters location is our Columbus, OH office. Duties include, but are not limited to: Develops policies and procedures, for example: collections guidelines, collections enhancements, and training manuals; Designs and implements technical policies and procedures; Manages Columbia Ultimate Business Systems (CUBS) operations and problem resolution for the Department of Taxation and State Client Services portfolio and staff; Manages and provides guidance to lower-level supervisors and staff; and Prepares reports and information for public information requests.
