Position: Weapons Systems Specialist – Undersea Weapons Nature of Role: MIKEL is seeking motivated individuals with U.S. Navy undersea weapons experience to support the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, Rhode Island. This position supports the safety, engineering, testing, and lifecycle management of U.S. Navy torpedo and undersea weapon systems. The ideal candidate has operational experience with Navy weapons systems and enjoys solving technical problems while working alongside engineers, government personnel, and former military subject matter experts. Previous experience performing system safety engineering is not required . MIKEL will provide on-the-job training in the system safety processes and documentation used by the Navy. Responsibilities: include but are not limited to: Support engineering teams responsible for U.S. Navy torpedo and undersea weapon systems. Apply operational fleet experience to evaluate weapon system design, testing, and safety. Participate in technical reviews and working groups with Navy engineers. Assist in identifying potential operational hazards and recommend improvements. Review technical documentation and provide fleet user perspective. Support laboratory testing, system integration, and engineering evaluations. Help prepare technical reports, presentations, and meeting materials. Work closely with government engineers, former fleet operators, and system developers. Receive training in Navy System Safety processes (MIL-STD-882E). Participate in hazard tracking and safety documentation after appropriate training. Qualifications Ability to obtain or maintain a Secret Security Clearance Experience operating, maintaining, testing, or supporting U.S. Navy weapons systems Ability to work within a technical team Experience Former U.S. Navy Torpedoman's Mate (TM) Weapons Officer Combat Systems Officer NUWC experience NAVSEA experience Fleet training commands Test ranges Tactical employment of torpedoes UUV operations Education Associate's degree or higher in a technical discipline Military technical training with relevant Navy experience Equivalent combination of education and military experience Experience 2+ years of U.S. Navy undersea weapons experience 4+ years military technical experience Technical experience supporting Navy weapon systems Recent military veterans encouraged to apply Bonus Skills Fault Trees Familiarity with submarine or surface ship combat systems MK48, MK54, or heavyweight torpedo experience Undersea weapons testing Technical writing Former government civilian supporting Navy weapons NUWC or NAVSEA experience Work Location: Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) , Newport, RI MIKEL offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package that includes Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance, Flexible Spending Account (FSA), 401k Retirement Plan, Life Insurance, Disability Insurance, Paid Time Off (PTO), and Tuition Reimbursement.
