Job Summary

Join the dedicated nursing team at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, an ANCC Pathways to Excellence designated facility, located in Murphysboro, Illinois. This blended unit provides comprehensive care to a diverse patient population, encompassing Medical-Surgical, a thriving Swing Bed Program, and patients occasionally requiring a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level of care.

This role offers an opportunity to work within a highly engaged team that actively contributes to unit committees and shared decision-making processes, fostering a positive environment focused on safety and quality care. Nurses on this unit manage varied patient acuities, from general medical-surgical needs to those requiring closer monitoring and specialized interventions.

Patient assignments are thoughtfully balanced by nursing workload and patient acuity, with typical ratios of 1:5 for Medical-Surgical, 1:5-6 for Swing Bed, and 1:3-4 for PCU patients, depending on drip requirements. Supervisors provide excellent support in managing assignments, ensuring a smooth workflow for all team members, including those with a primary Medical-Surgical background.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct, compassionate nursing care to Medical-Surgical, Swing Bed, and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) patients.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans based on individual needs and acuity levels.
• Administer medications, including intravenous drips, and perform treatments as prescribed.
• Monitor and interpret patient vital signs, lab results, and clinical data, escalating concerns appropriately.
