Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Board-Eligible/Board-Certified Internal Medicine Nocturnist, you will join a well-established hospital-employed group at CommonSpirit Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. This exceptional opportunity allows you to provide comprehensive patient care within a regional healthcare leader, consistently recognized as the #1 Best Regional Hospital in Chattanooga by U.S. News & World Report for 11 consecutive years (and TN's #4), and holding a consistent 'A' Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group.

Every night you will focus on providing outstanding inpatient care for adults during the overnight hours, playing a pivotal role in ensuring continuity of care and managing acute changes in patient conditions. You will operate within a highly supportive environment, free from Peds, OB, or Trauma cases, and with no codes (Rapid Response Team handles) and no after-hours call, allowing you to concentrate fully on patient management. With a reasonable census and closed ICUs staffed by Intensivists, you can deliver high-quality care efficiently. This role offers a dedicated night schedule of 158 shifts (including 5 CME days), from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, fostering a specialized expertise in nighttime hospital medicine.

To be successful in this role, you will be a Board-Eligible/Board-Certified Internal Medicine Nocturnist with a passion for delivering compassionate, high-quality care during the overnight hours.

• Diagnosing, treating, and prescribing for a diverse adult inpatient population under your care overnight.
• Promptly evaluating new admissions and managing acute changes in patient conditions.
• Ordering and interpreting necessary diagnostic tests to guide treatment during the night shift.
• Collaborating effectively with day-shift hospitalists, nurses, and other specialists to ensure seamless transitions of care.
• Managing discharge planning for appropriate patients, or preparing them for day-shift discharge processes.
• Responding to urgent patient needs and initiating appropriate interventions during the night time.
• Maintaining accurate and thorough medical records, ensuring comprehensive documentation of care provided overnight.
• Adhering to all hospital policies, procedures, and patient safety protocols, particularly those relevant to nocturnal care.
