Payroll Specialist

• Job Title : Payroll Specialist
• Duration : 3+ months (Extendable)
• Pay Rate : $28-$30/Hr.
• Locations : Manhattan, NY
• Schedule Notes: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Position Summary

The Timekeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate employee time and attendance records to support timely and accurate payroll processing. This role ensures compliance with organizational policies, labor agreements, and payroll regulations by reviewing, auditing, and processing employee timesheets and leave records.

Key Responsibilities

Time & Attendance Administration

• Review and process employee timesheets for accuracy and policy compliance
• Monitor missed punches, scheduling exceptions, and daily time entries
• Audit overtime, holiday pay, shift differentials, and premium pay eligibility
• Ensure supervisor approvals are completed prior to payroll deadlines

Payroll Support

• Submit approved time records and payroll adjustments
• Investigate and resolve timekeeping discrepancies and payroll errors
• Reconcile payroll adjustments related to late or incorrect submissions
• Maintain supporting documentation for payroll transactions

Leave & Absence Tracking

• Track employee leave including vacation, sick, comp time, FMLA, and approved absences
• Verify leave balances and apply correct leave codes
• Coordinate with HR and payroll teams regarding leave administration
• Update employee status changes within the timekeeping system

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Minimum 2 years of payroll and timekeeping experience
• Experience with payroll functions including taxes, garnishments, retro pay calculations, and year-end activities
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Accounting, or related field
• Experience with Oracle, PeopleSoft, or similar HR/payroll systems
• Knowledge of union contracts and public-sector payroll practices
• Experience supporting large employee populations
