Job Summary Please join our dedicated team at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, a member of the Stony Brook Medicine Health System, located in Southampton, New York. Job Responsibilities Under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician, provides health care to patients including diagnosis and treatment. Under the supervision of a physician, obtains medical histories, performs physical examinations, makes diagnosis and orders appropriate and standard laboratory and diagnostic procedures as necessary in the office. Evaluates procedure results and findings for physicians. Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing the patient’s plan of care. Provides patient education about underlying medical condition, self‑management of acute or chronic illnesses and tailors instructions to patients’ individual circumstances. Instructs and counsels patients regarding therapeutic regimens, promoting wellness and health maintenance. Prescribes medications. Administers medication/immunizations, suturing, managing wounds and infections, etc. Documents exam and progress notes; provides referral letters as needed. In addition to office visits, the Physician Assistant will perform other tests and procedures (specific to the specialty). Collects, monitors and reports on patient outcomes. Shares night and weekend call coverage with other Physician Extenders in the group. Other duties as assigned by supervising physicians. Ensures HIPAA guidelines are followed at all times. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an AMA-approved Physician Assistant program. NCCPA certified (National Commission of Certification of Physicians Assistants). NYS licensure. Preferred Qualifications Postgraduate experience in an ambulatory setting. Experience in Emergency Medicine. Master’s degree from an AMA-approved Physician Assistant program. Physical Demands May spend a great deal of their professional day walking, standing, moving and manipulating equipment, as well as lifting and moving objects, equipment and supplies. Ability to lift 20 pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients or objects may involve lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as assisting with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend or twist their body, as well as visual acuity.
