Job Description
The Control Panel Technician assembles electrical enclosures used for the measurement and control of hydrocarbon and chemical products, as well as power and water applications. This role focuses on precise panel wiring, mounting electronic control hardware, and terminating input and output signals according to established standards and schematics.
Responsibilities
Assemble electrical control panels and enclosures used in hydrocarbon, chemical, power, and water applications.
Mount electronic control hardware inside enclosures in accordance with company standards and practices.
Perform point-to-point panel wiring, including routing, measuring, cutting, and terminating wires.
Accurately measure wire lengths and select appropriate wire colors for each input and output (I/O) channel.
Strip insulation from wires and terminate both ends under screw terminals, ensuring secure and reliable connections.
Work with small, tightly packed terminals that require high levels of manual dexterity and discipline.
Interpret and follow electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams to complete panel builds.
Use hand tools such as wire crimpers, wire strippers, pliers, hand wrenches, and hand saws to assemble panels.
Operate small power tools including cordless drills, hand drills, and sabre saws in a safe and controlled manner.
Handle and correctly identify multiple wires and wire color combinations during assembly and wiring.
Follow written and verbal directions to build complete units independently when required.
Apply strong attention to detail to ensure accurate wiring, neat panel layout, and adherence to quality standards.
Utilize general PC skills, including basic use of Word and Outlook, to support documentation and communication.
Maintain a clean and organized workstation and follow safety procedures while bending, reaching, crouching, and lifting materials.
Support cross-training efforts by learning related tasks and assisting in other areas as needed.
Essential Skills
3+ years of experience building complete electrical control panels or units independently is preferred.
Demonstrated experience with panel wiring, electrical assembly, and point-to-point wiring.
Ability to read and follow electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
Strong attention to detail when measuring, cutting, stripping, and terminating wires.
Proficiency using hand tools such as wire crimpers, wire strippers, pliers, hand wrenches, and hand saws.
Proficiency using small power tools including cordless drills, hand drills, and sabre saws.
Ability to accurately identify and work with multiple wires and wire color combinations.
General hand and finger dexterity to terminate small wires into closely spaced screw terminals.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds approximately 10% of the time.
Ability to stoop, bend, reach into metal enclosures, and work in confined spaces as required by panel assembly.
Basic PC skills, including the ability to use Word and Outlook.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience building entire control panels from start to finish is strongly preferred.
Experience in electrical wiring, panel building, and control panel assembly.
Familiarity with industrial control systems and measurement and control applications for hydrocarbon, chemical, power, or water systems.
Ability to work independently at a workstation while maintaining consistent quality and productivity.
Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled environment with occasional extended hours.
Willingness to cross-train and learn additional tasks within the facility.
Why Work Here?
This opportunity offers strong long-term stability and the chance to grow your skills through cross-training in related areas. You join a team that values reliability, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement, with efforts underway to enhance the facility environment and support a sustainable work-life balance through thoughtful scheduling and overtime practices.
Work Environment
The role is based at a workstation where you may reach, bend, crouch, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, with the option to sit or stand while working. The primary work area is currently non-climate controlled, and hours are generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a common summer schedule of 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to reduce exposure to heat. You must be able to work from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when overtime is needed. Parts of the facility, such as the valve department, are climate controlled, and there is an active initiative to make more of the facility climate controlled.
