Location: Torrington, Wyoming. Department: Med/Surg‑Hosp. Job Title: Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Unit (PRN). Shift: Varied. We are looking for a Registered Nurse to cover various shifts on the Medical Surgical unit. MedSurg nurses must cross‑train to Labor and Delivery within 6‑12 months after hire. Position Summary This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and standards of professional nursing practice. It is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction. The role utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills necessary to assess data and plan, provide and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients. Core Functions Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs. Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family, ensures completion within appropriate timeframe. Reviews information from other health‑care team members, diagnostics and laboratory data, reports abnormal results to physician(s) and other appropriate caregivers. Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy. Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and input from patient, family and health team. Initiates a plan based on patient‑specific needs, assessment data and the medical plan of care. Goals for patient are realistic, measurable and developed in conjunction with the patient/family. Considers physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age‑specific and educational needs of the patient. Plans care collaboratively with multidisciplinary team and revises the plan based on evolving patient needs. Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the health‑care team. Provides care per physician orders and nursing plan, complying with policies, standards of care and regulatory requirements. Delegates appropriately and provides nursing supervision to other licensed nurses and personnel. Promotes continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers. Evaluates the patient’s and family’s response to care and teaching, revises the plan as needed. Evaluates patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other team members, and assesses the effectiveness of patient teaching. Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation is legible, timely and in accordance with policy. Reflects objective/subjective data, nursing interventions and patient response to treatment. Notes physician orders accurately. Provides care based on best evidence available, may participate in research activities. Participates in unit or facility shared leadership. Interacts and participates in education, role development and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families and visitors. Supports growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate. Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable and safe care. Actively participates in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, and may participate in professional organizations. May supervise staff and work flow of the department in some roles. Interacts with all levels of staff across departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts such as other health‑care institutions, community providers and agencies regarding patient care. Interacts with providers in multiple settings to report and clarify information, works with clergy to provide spiritual support, and synthesizes data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to changes in health status. Minimum Qualifications Current, valid RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice. BLS certification required. Additional certifications or continuing education may be required based on area of practice. Experience in the clinical area applying for is desired; must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area through annual validations. Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting, including work in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as an RN in the specialty area. Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions require a minimum of one year experience as an RN in a physician practice or acute care setting. In a Home Health setting, team members must be able to operate a personal vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license, and maintain active auto insurance coverage. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree preferred. Professional certification preferred. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
