Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Neuro RN for a 13-week night shift contract requiring NIHSS certification and Epic experience.

Details

• 30-bed Neurosurgery and Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery acute care unit
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-07:00)
• 13-week assignment with every other weekend required
• Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays with Christmas RTO unavailable
• Shift options may include 36 or 48 hour schedules
• Must adhere to facility float policy within scope of practice

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license required (pending license accepted)
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of relevant RN experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• BSN preferred
• Skills in IV therapy, blood product administration, central and PICC line management required
• Experience with neurological conditions including CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury required
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, telemetry, and rapid response/code team protocols required
• Experience with respiratory care including oxygen administration and oral suctioning required
• Wound care and wound vac experience required
• Experience managing IV insulin protocols and PCA pumps required

Additional Information

• Care for patients with neurosurgical, orthopedic trauma, and plastics surgical needs
• Provide pre- and post-operative neurosurgery care including feeding tube and surgical drain management
• Maximum of 40 hours RTO approved per 13-week contract, must be disclosed prior to offer
• Any planned vacation between sign date and start date must be disclosed to determine start date
• Previous UVA permanent staff or travelers require 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning
• External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days with UVA Health
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
