This role provides critical regulatory support to TC Energy’s U.S. Natural Gas (USNG) business, with a primary focus on TC Energy's USNG Tariffs, which set forth the rates, terms, and conditions under which TC Energy's interstate natural gas pipelines provide service. The successful candidate must be an effective problem solver with excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills. This candidate must be able to interpret and apply tariff language and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) policy to support business objectives and maintain regulatory compliance. The Tariffs Analyst will work collaboratively across TC Energy’s USNG business, partnering with Marketing, Business Development, Legal, Operations, Accounting, Contracts, Rates, Certificates, and other teams to develop and implement commercial and regulatory initiatives affecting individual pipelines and the broader organization. This position will be expected to provide thoughtful analysis, recommendations, and regulatory guidance to support strategic decisions for TC Energy’s regulated pipeline assets. In addition, this role will regularly interact with regulatory agencies, customers, and consultants.
What you’ll do
Lead tariff filings through the regulatory approval process, from initial concept and strategy through drafting, internal review, filing with FERC, and implementation, while managing critical deadlines and ensuring applicable regulatory and legal requirements are addressed
Work closely with Legal, Marketing, Business Development, Accounting, Contracts, Rates, and other groups to develop regulatory filings related to service agreements, fuel and cost trackers, rate case proceedings, new services, enhancements to existing services, and other potential tariff modifications
Develop and update Excel models to analyze volume and cost data in the design of fuel and cost trackers
Conduct regulatory research and analysis to evaluate legal and regulatory requirements, identify potential compliance concerns, and coordinate efforts to address potential noncompliance
Work within an integrated team to drive and execute on USNG regulatory strategy.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Law, or other related fields
Three to five years of relevant professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the regulated natural gas pipeline industry and/or working knowledge of FERC regulations and policies
Experience interpreting interstate natural gas pipeline tariffs and applying tariff provisions to commercial and regulatory matters
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
Ability to work independently within the framework of a team-oriented environment
Strong collaboration, analytical, critical thinking, research, and verbal/written communication skills
