PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT Hospital Medicine

Job Overview The Physician Assistant (PA) will manage a caseload of patients in non‑critical or ambulatory settings under the supervision of a physician or designated back‑up practitioners. The PA provides direct patient care, performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and interprets laboratory studies, prescribes medications as allowed, and collaborates in patient treatment planning and quality improvement activities. Key Responsibilities Conduct physical examinations, obtain patient histories, and document findings. Order and interpret diagnostic tests and laboratory studies. Perform approved therapeutic and diagnostic procedures and document patient preparation and responses. Formulate and implement treatment plans for acute illness management in collaboration with supervising physicians. Initiate emergency interventions to stabilize patients. Provide family‑centered care and communicate changes in health status. Conduct educational activities for families, nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, and health‑care learners. Participate in quality/ performance‑improvement activities, clinical research, and accreditation compliance. Serve as a clinical expert and leadership consultant to nursing and the health‑care team. Maintain participation in professional organizations, continuing education, and dissemination of knowledge. Minimum Qualifications Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree strongly preferred. Licensed PA in the state of North Carolina. Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Ability to use prescriptive privileges as allowed by the North Carolina Medical Board. Preferred Experience None required beyond the educational qualifications, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
