About the Role

MiSalud Health runs on-site health screening events at workplaces (which include laboratory tests, vaccinations, and medical appointments) in WA and other states. We are hiring Medical Assistants to administer vaccines and collect fingerstick samples for Spanish- and English-speaking workers at these events.

This is one combined role. At a single event you may vaccinate a patient, collect their fingerstick sample, and run the point-of-care test, so both sides of the work sit with the same person.

You will work under the supervision of a Washington health care practitioner who authorizes each administration by written order. Washington does not require that practitioner to be on site: supervision is satisfied when they are immediately available, or connected to you by real-time audio and video. Your day is patient-facing: intake and screening, consent, vaccination, sample collection, and documenting it accurately.

This is a per-diem 1099 contractor position paid hourly. Engagements are scheduled per event, and you may accept or decline any individual event.

What Actually Matters to Us

• Clinical Precision:  You confirm the correct vaccine and route for every patient, you administer only by unit or single dose or a dose the supervising practitioner has calculated and verified, and you collect and label every sample correctly.
• Compassionate Communication:  You explain the vaccine and the screening, provide the Vaccine Information Statement, and obtain informed consent fluently in both Spanish and English.
• Operational Integrity:  You protect the cold chain, check every lot number and expiration date, run quality control before patient testing, and handle sharps and biohazard waste correctly.
• Extreme Ownership:  You own your documentation from the patient record through retention, and you escalate anything that does not look right.

What You Will Do

Your work covers the full patient encounter at each event:

• Patient Intake:  Greet and identify each patient, confirm date of birth, verify eligibility against the practitioner's written order, and screen for contraindications and prior reactions.
• Consent and Education:  Provide the current Vaccine Information Statement, answer questions in the patient's preferred language, and obtain and document informed consent.
• Vaccine Administration:  Administer vaccines by the intramuscular route, pursuant to a written order from the supervising health care practitioner and within the tasks named on your filed attestation.
• Fingerstick Collection:  Perform fingerstick capillary collection for point-of-care testing, label and handle every sample correctly, and follow the referral protocol for abnormal results.
• Point-of-Care Testing:  Operate CLIA-waived devices per the manufacturer's instructions for use, and run daily quality control on every device before patient testing.
• Vaccine and Sample Handling:  Maintain the cold chain during transport and throughout the event, verify lot numbers and expiration dates, track doses and consumables used, and dispose of sharps and biohazard waste per protocol.
• Documentation:  Record patient name and date of birth, vaccine name, lot number, expiration date, route, anatomic site, date and time, your name and registration number, the supervising practitioner's name, and patient consent for every dose, record all test results, and retain records for at least three years.
• Adverse Events:  Observe patients post-administration, recognize and respond to reactions, escalate immediately to the supervising practitioner by the established contact method, and support VAERS reporting.
• Station Support:  Help set up and break down the vaccination and screening stations, and keep supplies stocked and organized through the event day.

What We're Looking For

Required:

• One of the following: active Washington Department of Health registration as a medical assistant-registered (MA-R); or an active Washington medical assistant-certified (MA-C) credential; or eligibility to register as an MA-R under an employer endorsement, in which case MiSalud files the attestation of endorsement and you may work up to 60 days while your application is processed
• Understanding that your registration is not transferable between employers, and that your authorized scope is limited to the tasks named on the attestation filed with the Department, which for this role names both vaccine administration and fingerstick collection
• Willingness to demonstrate competency in vaccine administration and fingerstick collection to the supervising practitioner before your first administration
• Proficiency performing fingerstick capillary collection
• Current BLS certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
• Conversational proficiency in Spanish and English, as our patients are predominantly Spanish-speaking
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel to event sites across the Seattle metro
• Comfortable with early morning start times and occasional weekend events

Preferred:

• 1+ year of experience in vaccination clinics, mobile health, or community health events
• MA-C credential already held, which removes any dependency on the provisional registration window
• Prior experience with point-of-care devices or employer-site screening events
• Experience with electronic health record systems
