Talent Acquisition Specialist – Construction & Skilled Trades

We're looking for someone who knows construction and knows how to find good people. Jennings Mechanical is growing, and we're looking for a Talent Acquisition Specialist – Construction & Skilled Trades to help us build the team that will grow with us.

You'll work directly with our hiring managers, actively source candidates, build talent pipelines, and recruit for everything from skilled trades and field positions to project management and office roles.

You need to understand the construction and skilled-trades labor market. You should know how to find the people who aren't necessarily applying online, how to talk to them, and how to get them interested in an opportunity at Jennings Mechanical.

What you'll do

• Own recruiting for assigned positions from job opening through offer.

• Partner with hiring managers to understand what they actually need.

• Source candidates through Indeed, LinkedIn, referrals, networking, trade schools, and other channels.

• Conduct resume reviews and initial phone screens.

• Coordinate interviews and keep candidates moving through the process.

• Build pipelines for hard-to-fill positions before we desperately need someone.

• Develop relationships with skilled tradespeople, construction professionals, and other potential candidates.

• Represent Jennings at career fairs, trade schools, and recruiting events.

• Help strengthen Jennings' reputation as an employer of choice within the construction and skilled-trades community.

• Track recruiting activity and help us understand what's working—and what isn't.

• Find new ways to reach candidates who aren't sitting around waiting for a job posting.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who is proactive, persistent, organized, and comfortable talking to people.

Required:

• 2+ years of recruiting or talent acquisition experience within construction, mechanical contracting, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or another skilled-trades environment.
• Demonstrated experience recruiting skilled trades or construction professionals.
• Experience managing multiple openings at the same time.
• Ability to actively source candidates rather than relying solely on job applications.
• Strong phone, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to build relationships with candidates and hiring managers.
• Strong organization and follow-through.
• Comfortable making outbound calls and recruiting outreach.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

Preferred:

• Experience recruiting for a mechanical contractor or similar specialty contractor.
• Existing relationships or recruiting networks within the Charleston construction and skilled-trades market.
• Experience recruiting HVAC technicians, plumbers, project managers, estimators, or other mechanical-construction roles.
• Experience with Indeed, LinkedIn Recruiter, or an applicant tracking system.

You understand that the best candidate may never apply.

You know how to find a good HVAC technician.

You know that a strong Project Manager may already have a job and needs a reason to consider leaving it.

You know how to build a relationship before you need something from someone.

And when a position isn't getting candidates, your first response isn't, "We need to repost it." You figure out what else we can do.
