Military/Veteran Peer Support Specialist III

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Military/Veteran Peer Support Specialist III for the Military Services within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. Under the supervision, provides person centered, culturally competent, and "consumer friendly" services to individuals who contact the Call Center. Receives telephone, chat, and text requests for service, undertakes review of the service need of the caller or consumer, and responds by offering peer support and appropriate referrals and disposition.

Among the key duties of this position are the following: Develops and maintains a peer to peer relationship with individuals served so that he/she can identify emotional, psychiatric or behavioral changes with may require further support. Assures that the expressed needs and strengths of the individual served drive service delivery. Demonstrates the ability to use a standardized template thoroughly and efficiently to guide a telephone screening of the service needs of all populations with the full array of behavioral health problems. Documents all contact information in accordance with departmental protocols and accurately and appropriately inputs data in unit's informational system. Maintains comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of eligibility and admission criteria for units, programs and contracts served by the Center. Maintains professional, effective, open, constructive and solution focused communication with members of the unit.

Mid Range Salary - 28.050

Maximum Salary - 28.890

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience - High School diploma or equivalent. At least three (3) years of active duty service or have served thirty (30) days in a combat zone which includes medically discharged or medically retired service members or have served four (4) years in the National Guard.

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Demonstrated ability to use a computer to record services and other basic office functions. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team. May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Physical Demands and Work Environment - Ability to speak clearly and write proficiently. Hearing is essential. The ability to focus on the task at hand despite numerous interruptions. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and document into an electronic contact record. May be required to lift up to 20lbs. Handles phone requests under time and decision-making pressure. Generally pleasant working conditions in a clean, well-lighted, and quiet to moderately loud setting. Handles emergency or crisis situations.
