The Substance Abuse Counselor works with clients to establish healthy coping skills and a support network to sustain abstinence and to develop an individualized relapse prevention plan to maintain the client’s recovery after they have completed The Intensive Outpatient Program. Benefits 401(k) matching Competitive salary Dental insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Benefits Dental insurance Health insurance Vision insurance Qualifications Must possess a valid State of Maryland Licensure or Credential that allows for practice as a Certified Associate Counselor-Alcohol and Drug (CAC-AD) or Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) 1-3 years' experience in a behavioral healthcare or substance abuse setting. Knowledge of case management for dual diagnosis patient. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Proficient with ICANotes is a plus Excellent organizational skills Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines. Proven ability to handle multiple projects under pressure. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Understanding of diverse cultures and gender specific issues and the ability to incorporate needs of gender and culturally diverse groups into the organization. Maintains appropriate confidentiality at all times when interacting with patients, residents, families, visitors, referral sources and all other contacts. Displays excellent customer relation skills as evidenced by supportive and constructive communication with all contacts including coworkers, patients, residents, visitors, families and referral sources. Responsibilities Evaluate clients' mental and physical health, addiction, or problem behavior and assess their readiness for treatment Assist clients in developing treatment goals and plans, including support of education about medically assisted treatment options and referral to / collaboration with other resources on the medical and psychiatric teams Review and recommend treatment options with clients and their families; partner with IOP staff with after care plan Assist clients develop skills and behaviors necessary to recover from their addiction or modify their behavior Work with clients to identify behaviors or situations that interfere with their recovery Educate families about addiction or behavior disorders and help them develop strategies to cope with those problems Refer clients to other resources and services, such as support groups and job placement services. Conduct outreach programs to help people identify the signs of addiction and other destructive behavior, as well as steps to take to avoid such behavior Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.
