ABOUT USP TECHNOLOGIES

USP Technologies (USP) is an environmental services company providing full-service, turn-key chemical technology programs for the treatment of water, wastewater, soil and air in municipal and industrial markets, including equipment, system monitoring, on-site technical support and logistics.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Account Manager is the primary technical representative and account owner for assigned customer accounts, delivering the USP value proposition through four core areas: (1) wastewater sampling and analysis, (2) chemical logistics planning and oversight, (3) minor maintenance of chemical feed and monitoring equipment, and (4) account management, including program performance, customer relationships, contract compliance and account growth. Working on-site, the Account Manager builds trusted relationships from plant operators through utility management, translates field data into clear recommendations that keep programs performing to contract, and represents USP's commercial interests at the account level, working independently and as field lead of a cross-functional account team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Wastewater Sampling & Analysis

• Collect routine and event-driven grab and composite samples from influent, process and effluent points per customer, USP and regulatory protocols (chain-of-custody, preservation, labeling, holding times).

• Perform on-site analyses (e.g., pH, ORP, residual oxidant/peroxide, sulfide, DO, alkalinity, turbidity, jar testing) using portable instruments and wet-chemistry methods; calibrate and maintain field instruments.

• Record, review and trend results; validate data quality, flag out-of-spec conditions and recommend feed-rate or program adjustments.

• Prepare timely customer reports, system surveys and data summaries documenting performance against contract targets; coordinate with third-party labs for confirmatory or compliance analyses.

Chemical Logistics Planning & Oversight

• Monitor chemical inventory and consumption at assigned sites; forecast usage and schedule deliveries to prevent stock-outs while minimizing excess inventory and freight cost.

• Coordinate deliveries with suppliers, carriers, USP logistics and site personnel; oversee bulk and packaged transfers to ensure they are safe, to the correct tank and compliant with DOT, OSHA and customer protocols.

• Inspect chemical storage, tanks, containment and unloading equipment; verify labeling, SDS availability and secondary containment integrity.

• Maintain accurate delivery, inventory and usage records; reconcile deliveries against orders and support monthly forecasting and invoicing.

Minor Maintenance & System Support

• Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on chemical feed systems (metering pumps, tubing, injection quills, flow meters, level sensors, analyzers, control panels).

• Troubleshoot common feed-system faults (priming, tubing/check-valve replacement, sensor cleaning and calibration, minor leaks); escalate larger repairs to the service or engineering team.

• Verify and adjust feed rates to program targets; maintain maintenance logs, spare-parts inventories and equipment records for each site.

Account Management & Customer Relationship

• Own the health and performance of assigned accounts; serve as primary contact for plant operators through utility management, conducting regular site walk-throughs and program review meetings.

• Maintain an account plan for each site covering customer goals, decision-makers, KPIs, contract terms and renewal dates, risks and growth opportunities; review quarterly with the Account Manager.

• Prepare and present periodic business reviews to customer management covering performance versus contract targets, consumption and cost trends, value delivered and recommended program changes.

• Monitor contract compliance and scope; track performance guarantees, pricing and volume terms, and flag scope creep or change-order needs. Support renewals and re-bids by documenting performance history and value delivered and participating in negotiations with the Account Manager.

• Identify, qualify and advance opportunities to expand scope, add applications or introduce new USP technologies at existing sites; support proposals, trials and pricing; share customer regulatory, capital-project and competitive intelligence with the account team.

• Communicate results, recommendations and safety or out-of-spec conditions promptly to the customer and USP account team; own site-level issue resolution. Coordinate engineering, service, logistics and finance resources for the account; support timely invoicing; maintain contacts, activities and opportunities in the CRM and provide monthly volume and revenue forecasts.

• Other Responsibilities as Required

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

• Working knowledge of water/wastewater treatment chemistry and processes; odor, sulfide, disinfection or nutrient control experience preferred.

• Field or laboratory analytical skills, including sampling technique, wet-chemistry methods, portable instrumentation and data quality practices.

• Understanding of chemical handling, storage and transport requirements (DOT/HazMat, OSHA HazCom, SDS) and safe delivery practices.

• Mechanical aptitude with metering pumps, instrumentation and hand tools; able to read P&IDs and equipment manuals.

• Strong organizational skills to manage account plans, inventory forecasts, delivery schedules and reporting across multiple sites; proficient in Microsoft Office and field data or CRM tools.

• Demonstrated account management skills: builds rapport from operations staff through senior utility management, understands customer business drivers, leads program and business reviews, and negotiates program adjustments, change orders and renewals while maintaining trust.

• Commercial acumen, including a working understanding of service contracts, pricing and margin, scope management and forecasting; able to quantify and present the value of a treatment program in concise, decision-ready terms.

• Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills; a team player who maintains integrity, maturity and accountability in a remote, self-managed role.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• B.S. in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering or related technical degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Minimum 3–7 years of customer-facing water/wastewater treatment or industrial chemical service experience, including 2+ years managing customer accounts, contracts or service programs; track record of retaining and growing accounts and presenting to customer management.

• Valid driver’s license with clean record required; wastewater operator certification, 40-hour HAZWOPER or DOT HazMat training a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

• Travel may be frequent depending on assigned account base; may require long hours, varied schedules and occasional on-call or emergency response; drives short and long distances within DOT regulations.

• Occasionally walks, sits, stands, climbs stairs and ladders, reaches, stoops, kneels or crawls; constantly uses hands for tools and keyboards; infrequently lifts, carries, pushes or pulls up to 60 pounds. Requires close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

• Wears all required PPE (eye, hearing and respiratory protection, chemical apron or suit, steel-toe shoes, gloves, hard hat, face shield). Routine exposure to and handling of hazardous chemicals and untreated wastewater.

• Work sites include wastewater and water plants, lift stations, collection systems, cooling towers and industrial process areas, indoors and outdoors, with occasional extreme heat/cold, inclement weather and high noise. These demands are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this job.

The below range reflects the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future. An associate’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs.

The compensation range for this role is $75,000 - $90,000 USD per year. This job is also eligible for Bonus Pay.
