About the Position

Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years Med/Tele RN experience License: RN License required Certifications: BLS required, Basic Cardiac Rhythm required. ACLS preferred. National certification in Medical-Surgical nursing or Nephrology nursing preferred. Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma Client. Proficient in IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and cardiac monitoring. Description: RN - MedSurg/Tele position available. Facility has 637 licensed beds. Designated as a Level 1 Trauma center with various specialties including Chest Pain and Stroke Centers. Unit has 35 beds with a current census of 35 patients. Patient types include orthopedic and trauma cases, head trauma, and post-operative surgical patients. Common co-morbidities include diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances. Patient ratio is RN: 1:4-6, LPN: 1:4-6, CNA: 2-3 per shift. CNA duties include assisting with vital signs, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulating, and hourly rounding. Unit has a resource nurse, discharge nurses, and 24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist services. Telemetry monitoring is available with centralized telemetry units. Technology used includes EPIC for EMR, Alaris for IV pumps, and Phillips monitors. Special equipment includes portable vital signs monitors, bladder scanners, and PCA pain management systems. Floating occurs to all adult med-surg/telemetry units within the facility. Weekend rotation requires 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule. Working one major holiday shift is expected. Requests for time off will require manager approval. Scrub color for RN staff is navy. Unit culture is busy but emphasizes teamwork.
