Fleet Mechanic Manager

This role oversees the maintenance and repair of a fleet of trucks, tractor trailers, pull-behind trailers, weld generators, and powered industrial trucks (PIT). The Fleet Mechanic Manager ensures all vehicles and equipment operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards. This position combines hands-on mechanical work with leadership responsibilities, requiring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed inspections and diagnostic tests on vehicles to determine condition and identify worn or damaged parts.
• Oversee and coordinate the daily activities of mechanics, ensuring work aligns with federal, state, and local vehicle regulations.
• Perform and manage preventive maintenance schedules to keep equipment available for use and reduce major downtime.
• Install component and part upgrades, control corrosion, and complete winterization procedures for the fleet.
• Repair, adjust, overhaul, assemble, disassemble, and replace major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems including power and drive trains, electrical systems, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, and hydraulic systems.
• Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems as needed.
• Maintain accurate vehicle service and repair records, including documentation of parts usage and repair times.
• Complete all required paperwork related to vehicle repairs in a timely and accurate manner.
• Estimate time and material costs for vehicle repairs, requisition new parts, and locate appropriate replacement parts.
• Ensure all work is completed within standard repair times and in accordance with established procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with OSHA standards and company safety procedures.
• Monitor and update a spreadsheet of all company vehicles, providing regular status updates to the leadership team.
• Work with limited supervision by establishing and following procedures to accomplish assigned tasks efficiently.
• Support and guide mechanics in troubleshooting complex mechanical issues and promote adherence to maintenance best practices.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years of related experience as a mechanic, preferably with commercial trucks.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and advanced troubleshooting skills.
• Hands-on experience with diesel engines, truck and trailer repair, and diesel maintenance.
• Experience in fleet maintenance and repair of multiple vehicle types, including Ford pickup trucks (350 and 450), semis, and trailers.
• Proficiency in preventive maintenance practices for diesel and automotive equipment.
• Ability to diagnose and repair power and drive trains, electrical systems, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, and hydraulic systems.
• Previous experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with a focus on meeting deadlines and maintaining detailed records.
• Ability to work with limited supervision and follow established safety and maintenance procedures.
• Must provide and use own tools on the job.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• State inspection license.
• Commercial Drivers License (CDL) preferred but not required.
• Experience working on commercial trucks and mixed fleets.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-demand environment with frequent overtime.
• Ability to lead and coordinate the work of other mechanics.
• Detail-oriented approach to documentation, paperwork, and recordkeeping.

Work Environment

This is a first-shift role, typically Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the potential for additional hours when project volume increases. The facility is not climate controlled, so the environment can be hot in the summer and cool in the winter, with fans and heaters used seasonally. The team is currently short-staffed, which creates a fast-paced atmosphere with substantial overtime and a high sense of urgency. Candidates should be comfortable working in a setting where coworkers may be busy and focused due to workload demands. Safety is a priority, and steel-toe footwear is required while on the shop floor. The role involves working around diesel trucks, semis, trailers, weld generators, and PIT equipment, using standard mechanical tools and diagnostic equipment in a shop environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of EMIGSVILLE, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $72800.00 - $81120.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
