Role Description The Direct Care Worker role at Home Instead is a full-time, on-site position based in Arlington Heights, IL. In this role, the Direct Care Worker provides hands-on support to older adults in their homes, including assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, and toileting. Responsibilities may include light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders, and assistance with errands or transportation to appointments. The Direct Care Worker observes and reports changes in clients’ condition, follows care plans, and collaborates with the care team to ensure safety and comfort. The role also involves offering companionship, engaging clients in meaningful activities, and promoting dignity, respect, and independence at all times. Qualifications Ability to provide personal care and assistance with daily living activities, including safe mobility support and basic hygiene. Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills to build trusting relationships with clients and families. Dependable, organized, and able to follow care plans, document observations, and adhere to safety and confidentiality standards. Capacity to manage time effectively, work independently in clients’ homes, and respond calmly in routine and urgent situations. Demonstrated empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse older adult populations. Prior experience in caregiving, home care, or a related field is preferred but not always required; willingness to complete training is essential. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred; relevant certifications such as CNA or HHA are a plus.
