The Godfrey Learning Center (GLC) is seeking a dynamic and dedicated building principal to lead our Alternative and Special Education programs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep commitment to inclusive education, whole child approach, and student-centered leadership. This individual will be a visible and engaged presence throughout the building and will work closely with staff, families, and district leadership to support a positive and productive learning environment. Responsibilities Promote a safe and secure environment by: Assuming final responsibility for pupil discipline based on the Code of Conduct Maintaining emergency and crisis plans that align with host district plans, where appropriate. Instructional Leadership: Regularly visit classrooms to observe instruction and support staff and students. Assist with instructional supervision as assigned by the Director. Participate actively in IEP meetings and collaborate closely with the CSE and Associate Directors of Special Programs. Continuous evaluation and enhancement of existing programs in relation to student and district needs. Facilitating the development and implementation of new programs and when appropriate, the transition of students back to their home school district. Staff Supervision & Evaluation: Supervise, observe, and evaluate both tenured and non-tenured teachers per district policy and contractual requirements. Recruiting, establishing an interview process, selecting and assigning staff. Participate in staff retention and dismissal recommendations. Being the direct supervisor of staff and be responsible for the day-to-day administration of assigned programs. Developing and facilitating professional development opportunities to enable staff to grow in their skills. Student Management: Oversee student attendance and discipline processes within the Learning Center. Crisis intervention experience. Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools Operational Oversight: Maintain and manage budget needs specific to learning center instructional staff. Ensure effective communication with special education administrators. Overseeing and managing budgets and human resources in support of identified instructional goals with an understanding of fiscal responsibilities. Additional Duties: Carry out responsibilities and initiatives as directed by the District Superintendent. Required Qualifications Valid NYS School Building Leader (SBL) or equivalent certification. Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in an elementary setting. Proven track record in instructional leadership and staff supervision. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience participating in or chairing IEP meetings. Familiarity with CSE procedures and special education program development. Background in behavior management and restorative practices.
