Senior HVAC Design Engineer - BIM

We’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer/Designer (HVAC Systems Design) (10+ years of experience preferred) who can own design, collaborate in a technology‑driven BIM environment, and support projects through construction. What you’ll do HVAC Systems Design Design HVAC systems including ductwork, piping, and equipment sizing/selection Design and support direct expansion (DX) equipment, VRV/VRF air conditioning systems, and central chilled water and heating water plants Review heating and cooling load calculations and apply results to system layouts Contribute to new construction and renovation/remodel projects Analysis, Documentation, and Deliverables Perform and/or review design calculations, equipment selection, and layout of HVAC equipment Produce clear, coordinated mechanical documentation in a Revit‑first BIM workflow (plans, schedules, details, diagrams) Review designs and support specification editing Use or support energy/performance documentation such as COMcheck/REScheck and sustainability requirements (e.g., LEED criteria), when applicable Coordination & Construction Support Coordinate mechanical design with plumbing, electrical, structural, and architectural teams in a real‑time Revit/BIM environment Support construction administration including submittal reviews, RFI responses, site visits, and field reports Support coordination discussions with Owners, Contractors, Architects, and Code Authorities with a working understanding of cross‑discipline requirements Travel for project meetings, job site visits, and building surveys as required Mentorship & Quality Mentor and support the development of designers and early‑career engineers through plan reviews, guidance, and knowledge‑sharing Help maintain quality and consistency across mechanical deliverables, including coordination checks and documentation standards What will make you successful Required Strong working proficiency in Revit (mechanical design within a BIM workflow) Solid understanding of HVAC fundamentals, applicable codes, and constructability considerations Experience leading HVAC design for multi‑discipline building projects and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related engineering discipline) Preferred 10+ years of HVAC/mechanical building systems design experience (consulting engineering preferred) Familiarity with Trane TRACE and/or Carrier HAP programs Central plant design exposure (gas heat/heating water and chilled water systems) Experience with building energy performance software and compliance documentation (COMcheck/REScheck) Familiarity with green building certification criteria (e.g., LEED) EIT or P.E. license (or clear path toward licensure) Project types you may support JSE supports a robust portfolio of project types including multifamily, mixed‑use, commercial, hospitality, office, retail/restaurant, industrial, data center, and healthcare construction projects.
