Assistant 7th Grade Boys Basketball Coach Location: Carlisle, Iowa – Carlisle Middle School. Job Description Qualifications Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program. Has previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport (major sports). The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field. The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions. Reporting & Supervision Reports to the athletic director and high school principals. May advise, coordinate, and support a staff of high‑school assistant coaches and middle‑school coaches. Job Goal To instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for success while teaching socially acceptable character development, self‑discipline, confidence, and pride of accomplishment. To upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation. General Expectations The success of athletic programs influences community image and public exposure; must balance student‑athlete development with community expectations. Position includes extended time, injury risk, and due‑process responsibilities. Provide sufficient guidance; exercise common sense and good judgment in situations not specifically covered. Duties and Responsibilities Have thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Plainwell Community Schools’ Board of Education and implement them. Know existing system, state, and league regulations; implement consistently and interpret for staff. Understand proper administrative lines of command and refer all requests or grievances through proper channels; attend required meetings. Establish fundamentals philosophy, skills, and techniques; design conferences, clinics, and staff meetings. Train and inform staff, encouraging professional growth and clinic attendance. Delegate duties, supervise implementation, analyze staff effectiveness at season’s end, evaluate assistants. Maintain discipline; adjust grievances; increase morale and cooperation. Perform other duties assigned by the athletic director or principal. Assist the athletic director with scheduling, transportation, and requirements for tournaments and special events. Prepare for scheduled sport events or practices; adhere to facility times and coordinate with maintenance. Provide documentation for state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility. Ensure safeguards for equipment sites and advise on policy changes. Serve as mentor for each athlete, promoting character traits; monitor grades and conduct. Attend all practices, games, and travel to provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards. Provide training rules and regulations to each athlete and implement injury, medical, and emergency programs. Complete paperwork on all disabling injuries and submit within 24 hours. Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians. Determine discipline, delineate procedures concerning due process when enforcement of discipline is necessary, and contract parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible. Assist athletes with college or advanced educational selection. Participate in budgeting with the athletic director, establish requirements, keep within budget, and manage equipment costs and inventory. Collect cost of lost equipment; issue, store, recondition, and submit inventory records. Mark and identify all equipment before issuing or storing. Monitor equipment rooms; authorize entry and requisitions. Ensure athletes are in authorized areas at appropriate times. Examine locker rooms for cleanliness; maintain specific equipment. Secure doors, lights, windows before leaving; maintain respect for equipment and school property. Organize parents, coaches, players, and guests for preseason meetings. Recruit athletes and promote the sport within the school and externally through media, Little League programs, and other appropriate means. Handle oral or written releases to media; maintain good public relations with media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
