Position Overview:

The Registered Nurse (RN) serves as a key healthcare professional responsible for overseeing and directing nursing care within the cath lab and interventional radiology departments. A proactive and enthusiastic approach is essential to contribute to the success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

Below are the primary duties and performance expectations for this role:

Essential Functions:

1) Assessment: Conduct thorough nursing assessments to establish a comprehensive database. (20%)

  • A) Complete assessments for new admissions or transfers upon arrival in the PACU.
  • B) Accurately document patient assessments.
  • C) Provide timely ongoing reassessments, noting significant observations.

2) Planning: Develop and coordinate a care plan based on initial assessment data, patient diagnosis, and physician orders. (10%)

  • A) Identify patient care needs.
  • B) Create nursing interventions aimed at achieving desired outcomes.
  • C) Initiate individualized care plans.
  • D) Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate daily care plans for assigned patients.

3) Implementation: Deliver and document nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs and care plans. (30%)

  • A) Coordinate and document patient care with other disciplines.
  • B) Provide patient education and discharge planning accurately on the PACU flow sheet.
  • C) Review and implement physician orders promptly.
  • D) Recognize changes in patient conditions and take appropriate nursing actions.
  • E) Follow medication and parenteral therapy administration guidelines.
  • F) Perform blood draws for lab specimens, including cultures.
  • G) Notify anesthesia and surgical physicians of significant patient condition changes.
  • H) Assist physicians with procedures and examinations related to patient care.

4) Evaluation: Document the effectiveness of nursing care and adjust care plans as patients progress. (10%)

  • A) Conduct ongoing evaluations of care effectiveness based on assessment data and patient responses.
  • B) Assess and document the effectiveness of patient education.
  • C) Modify care plans as necessary.
  • D) Evaluate pain management effectiveness and take appropriate actions.

5) Professional/Leadership: Take responsibility for personal professional practice. (10%)

  • A) Engage in learning opportunities to enhance professional skills, including committee participation and mandatory training.
  • B) Arrive at work as scheduled and begin duties promptly.
  • C) Serve as a resource for colleagues, patients, and families.
  • D) Identify issues, gather relevant data, propose solutions, and communicate effectively.
  • E) Supervise care provided by Care Partners.
  • F) Uphold customer service standards in all patient interactions.

6) Safety/Infection Control: Adhere to safety and infection control protocols. (5%)

  • A) Follow universal precautions and dispose of hazardous materials appropriately.
  • B) Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
  • C) Report any risk management concerns.
  • D) Complete all annual mandatory training requirements.
  • E) Maintain a constant state of alertness and safety.

7) Service: Deliver exceptional service to patients by providing timely, high-quality care in a respectful manner. (10%)

  • A) Exhibit care and courtesy in all interactions.
  • B) Communicate effectively and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • C) Demonstrate competence and collaborate with other departments.
  • D) Utilize resources efficiently and recommend improvements to enhance service delivery.

8) Quality Improvement (QI): Integrate quality assessment into daily responsibilities. (5%)

  • A) Assist in developing unit-based performance improvement plans.
  • B) Collect performance improvement data as assigned.
  • C) Participate in discussions regarding performance improvement outcomes.
  • D) Collaborate on action plans and engage in research activities.

9) Age Appropriate Care: Provide care suitable for various age groups:

  • A) Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development for the age groups served.
  • B) Assess and interpret age-specific data to identify patient needs.

10) Specialized Care: Provide specialized care for patients at high risk for injury. (<1%)

  • A) Restraint Care: Evaluate alternatives to restraint and monitor patient responses.
  • B) Pain Management: Assess and incorporate cultural beliefs into pain management plans.
  • C) Abuse Assessment: Recognize and report signs of abuse or neglect.

Job Specifications

Minimum Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing program or equivalent education for licensing.

Minimum Experience: One year of medical-surgical experience is required; critical care or post-anesthesia care experience is preferred.

Required Course: Advanced Life Support (ALS)

Working Conditions:
  • Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Contact with patients in various circumstances.
  • Exposure to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, illnesses).
  • Subject to unpredictable situations and emergencies.
  • May require working irregular hours.
  • Pressure from multiple competing demands.
  • Exposure to latex, with a risk of developing allergies.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged standing and walking.
  • Ability to lift, position, push, and transfer patients.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and pull up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
