Information Systems Specialist

The Information Specialist maintains district server, backup, and data systems in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district technology. To accomplish these tasks, the Information Specialist must work closely with the staff and administration of USD 230.

Supervision: Director of Technology

• 12 Sick Days leave per year, accumulative to seventy (70) days
• 1 Day Personal leave per year, un-accumulative. One (1) additional personal day may be taken and deducted from sick leave.
• 2 Days Bereavement leave per year, un-accumulative. One (1) other bereavement day may be taken and deducted from sick leave.
• Vacation.83 days per month = 10 days per year (1-5 years of employment, 15 days per year (6 + years of employment)

Required: High School diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications: Completion or substantial completion toward a college degree.

• Data entry experience or related office experience (Organization skills, Attention to detail, Computer savvy, Confidentiality & Thoroughness)
• Experience with Student Information Systems (Skyward, Powerschool, etc)
• Valid Driver's License.
• Desire to continue professional growth.

Physical: Requires prolonged sitting or standing. Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials. Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching. Must work in noisy and crowded environments. Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.

General: Maintain district information systems and related systems in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district technology.

• Provide support to district staff to ensure they can successfully perform their duties.
• Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
• Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
• React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
• Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery as necessary.

Essential: Maintain and support the district's Student Information System (Skyward), Functions Financial Management platforms (Skyward) and related systems including providing support in completing the data components of all required State & Federal reporting systems.

• Support integration of third-party systems through API configurations, nightly CSV uploads, etc. IE- Clever, Google, Apple
• Conduct detailed inspections of district database systems.
• Recommends and designs improvements to the database structure through changes in data location, addition of new relationships between data components, or the elimination of unused information.
• Work closely with the USD 230 Technology Staff and the Teaching & Learning Department to prepare and disseminate documentation to users on the data definitions, logical and physical structure used in the database, as well as database functionality.
• Evaluate new and proposed systems and applications in terms of database usage and impact on the existing technology infrastructure.
• Monitor the status of database programming projects and report to the Director of Technology.
• Work with USD 230 Technology Staff to maintain and deploy data platforms as needed within the district.
• Work with the USD 230 Technology Staff to recommend and maintain suitable technology related supplies, parts, tools, and equipment.
• Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all technology maintenance and repair projects.
• See that district policies are observed at all times.
• Document all processes and procedures.
• Keep abreast of new technology-related information, innovative ideas, techniques, and software upgrades.
• Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
• Assist the USD 230 Technology Staff in conducting in-service meetings and staff meetings as required.
• Develop a system for dealing with emergency repair, patching, or update needs.
• Install and conduct training in commercial application programs and local software applications
• Be available as the contact person for USD 230 Technology Staff and Building Support Personnel.
• Keep the Director of Technology informed of any concerns or problems.
• Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Executive Director of Operations, or the Director of Technology.
