Job Summary: The Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the service shop by coordinating workflow, supervising shop technicians, ensuring quality repairs, promoting a culture of safety, and supporting exceptional customer service. This position serves as the technical leader for the shop, working closely with the Service Manager, Service Writers, Parts Department, and technicians to maximize productivity, efficiency, and repair quality while meeting customer expectations and Company performance objectives. Key Responsibilities Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to shop technicians. Promote teamwork, accountability, and professional development. Assist with onboarding and training new technicians. Reinforce Company policies, safety standards, and work expectations. Provide performance feedback to the Service Manager. Schedule and prioritize shop workflow to maximize productivity. Monitor work in process (WIP) and repair order aging. Ensure technicians remain productive and properly charged to repair orders. Coordinate with Parts to minimize downtime. Review repair documentation for completeness. Maintain shop organization and housekeeping. Promote CraneWorks' safety culture. Conduct daily safety observations. Ensure PPE compliance. Enforce OSHA requirements. Report and investigate incidents and near misses. Ensure Lockout/Tagout procedures are followed. Stop unsafe work immediately. Quality Expand considerably: Perform final quality inspections before equipment is released. Ensure OEM repair standards are followed. Reduce repeat repairs and comebacks. Verify documentation supports completed work. Monitor workmanship quality. Support Service Writers in communicating repair status. Assist with difficult customer issues. Promote timely communication. Ensure customer expectations are met. Utilize Karmak ERP and other business systems. Utilize Microsoft Office and mobile technology. Support reporting and KPI tracking to include technician efficiency, technician retention, repair order aging, WIP, safety, quality and customer satisfaction. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required High school diploma or GED. Five years of heavy equipment or crane repair experience. Prior experience leading technicians. Hydraulic, electrical, diesel and mechanical expertise. Valid driver’s license. Preferred OEM certifications. Karmak ERP or similar dealership management system experience. CDL. Lean/Continuous Improvement experience. Core Competencies Physical & Environmental Requirements To perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to: Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, crawl, and work in awkward positions for extended periods. Frequently use hands and fingers to handle tools, parts, controls, and equipment requiring manual dexterity. Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds independently and occasionally more with assistance or mechanical lifting devices. Climb ladders, steps, platforms, and crane structures while maintaining three points of contact. Work at varying heights while utilizing required fall protection equipment. Safely operate hand tools, power tools, hydraulic tools, diagnostic equipment, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other shop equipment. Possess sufficient visual acuity to inspect components, read gauges, technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and electronic diagnostic equipment. Possess sufficient hearing and verbal communication abilities to communicate effectively in a noisy work environment and respond to warning signals. Maintain the physical stamina necessary to perform repetitive manual tasks throughout a scheduled shift. Work is performed in both indoor shop and outdoor field environments. Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, energized systems, grease, oils, fuels, hydraulic fluids, and cleaning solvents. Frequent exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, humidity, wind, and direct sunlight. Exposure to loud noise levels requiring hearing protection. Exposure to dust, dirt, vibration, fumes, and airborne particles. Required to wear Company-issued and OSHA-required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, high‑visibility apparel, and fall protection equipment as applicable. May be required to work in confined spaces, elevated work areas, and around energized equipment while following established safety procedures and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements.
