As a Sr. Machinist , you’ll be at the heart of a high‑performance machine shop—setting up, adjusting, and operating an impressive range of CNC and manual equipment, from lathes and mills to grinders, boring machines, EDMs, and more.

In this role, you won’t just run machines—you’ll help shape the process. You’ll provide insight into machining methods and sequences, evaluate intricate parts and assemblies against exacting quality standards, and collaborate closely with engineers, designers, internal customers, and support groups to solve challenging technical problems.

You’ll play a key part in material handling and workflow coordination within your area, all while demonstrating craftsmanship, ownership, and pride in every component you produce. Your expertise will help maintain the seamless execution of our processes and uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and precision.

What You Will Do

The Sr. Machinist will assemble and configure fixturing, load and set up tooling, confirm machine operability, and operate machinery to produce components that meet precise customer specifications. They will accurately interpret design intent using ASME Y14.5‑compliant drawings, as well as sketches, diagrams, specifications, verbal instructions, formulas, shop orders, and manufacturing procedures. This role requires strong proficiency in shop mathematics—including trigonometry and geometry—and the skilled use of precision measuring instruments to ensure high‑quality, tightly‑toleranced parts. The machinist will select appropriate tools, fixtures, attachments, and equipment based on the manufacturing plan, identify and correct faulty tooling, and monitor machine operations across electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems. They will evaluate cutter, probe, and sensor data to detect potential issues early and take corrective action to maintain exceptional part quality.

We’d Love to Hear from Candidates with:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Five (5) years of machinist experience in a manufacturing setting
• Ability to obtain and maintain a “Q” clearance

A Successful Candidate Also Brings
• Completion of a CNC machining apprenticeship or related hands-on training
• Experience with CAD/CAM software
• Hands-on experience with Mori Seiki mills and lathes

Pay:

Estimated Starting Base Salary Range: $80,310 - 133,850. This position is incentive eligible. Centrus considers several factors when extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates’ key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications. While the posted range reflects the anticipated hiring range for this position, compensation above the range may be considered for candidates with exceptional qualifications and directly relevant experience.

This position will require a pre­-employment background check and a pre-employment drug test.

Subsequent Federal government reinvestigations may be required.
