Communications Intern

Communications Intern Location: Washington, DC (with some hybrid flexibility) Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week Duration: Late August - December 2026 About The Nimitz Group The Nimitz Group is a leader in government relations excellence, recognized as the premier firm dedicated to veteran policy. Position Overview The Nimitz Group is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Communications Intern to support our content development, digital communications, and audience engagement efforts. This role is ideal for a college student or a new graduate interested in communications, government affairs, media, marketing, or digital strategy. The intern will play a key role in creating, editing, and distributing content for The Nimitz Group's online newsletter and social media channels while helping strengthen the firm's digital presence and thought leadership. Responsibilities Newsletter Content Edit and proofread articles, updates, and announcements for the company's online newsletter Assist in researching topics, drafting content, and developing newsletter features Format and prepare content for publication Monitor newsletter performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement Content Development Repurpose newsletter and long-form content into social media posts and other digital assets Support the creation of thought leadership content, blog posts, and company updates Monitor engagement and help identify relevant trends and opportunities for audience growth Assist with basic graphic design, video editing, and multimedia content production as needed Conduct research on industry trends, communications best practices, and relevant news topics Qualifications Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills Familiarity with major social media platforms and content best practices Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently Interest in communications, public affairs, public policy, government affairs, media, or related fields Preferred Qualifications Experience using Canva or similar design tools Experience with newsletter platforms Familiarity with social media scheduling and analytics tools Basic video editing experience Some experience in politics or government relations (ex.
