Technical Assistant

Location: District-Wide (ECEAP, WMES, WMHS)

Position Type: 6.5 hours daily

Responsible To and Evaluation By: Special Education Director

Position Overview

The Technical Assistant will provide on-site support to virtual therapists during therapy sessions. This role ensures that technology is functioning smoothly, the therapy environment is properly set up, and students or clients are able to access services without disruption. The Technical Assistant acts as the bridge between the virtual therapist, the client, and the in-person setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Technology Setup & Support
• Set up and manage computers, webcams, headsets, microphones, and other devices needed for virtual therapy sessions.
• Troubleshoot basic technical issues such as connectivity problems, software glitches, and audio/video malfunctions.
• Ensure secure logins and session platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams, teletherapy portals) are working properly.
• Session Assistance
• Assist clients/students with logging in, positioning equipment, and staying engaged during the session.
• Provide hands-on help when materials or activities are required in person (e.g., distributing worksheets, manipulatives, or sensory tools).
• Monitor sessions discreetly to ensure a smooth flow, stepping in only when support is needed.
• Environment Management
• Prepare therapy space with necessary materials and ensure it is quiet, private, and conducive to learning or therapy.
• Maintain equipment inventory and report any technology or supply needs.
• Collaboration & Communication
• Act as the liaison between the virtual therapist, clients, and on-site staff.
• Relay important observations or concerns from in-person sessions to the therapist.
• Support documentation processes as directed by the therapist or supervisor.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or coursework in education, psychology, IT, or related field preferred.
• Comfort with basic technology, including video conferencing platforms, laptops/tablets, and peripheral devices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children.
• Ability to follow the therapist instructions precisely and maintain confidentiality.
• Patience, reliability, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Experience

• Prior work in an educational, clinical, or childcare setting.
• Experience providing technology support or working with telehealth/virtual learning platforms.
• Familiarity with special education, therapy practices, or related support services.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• In-person role within schools, clinics, or community settings.
• May involve assisting clients with mobility or setting up physical therapy tools.
• Requires the ability to lift up to 20 lbs and remain attentive during therapy sessions.
