Payroll Specialist I

Specialist Administration

Minimum starting salary: $21.80 per hour

Assignment: Payroll Specialist I Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Director of Payroll Pay Grade: AS260/230 days Dept./School: Payroll Date Revised: Spring 2025

Primary Purpose

Prepare payroll in an accurate and timely manner for all employees of the district. Works under the direction of the Payroll Manager.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Certification

• High School Diploma/GED
• College hours preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills/Experience

• Prior clerical experience (payroll experience preferred)
• Knowledge of basic accounting procedures
• Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records
• Ability to use 10-key calculator by touch
• Ability to use personal computer including Excel and Word software
• Ability to work with numbers in an accurate and rapid manner to meet established deadlines
• Ability to communicate effectively and provide excellent customer service

Major Responsibilities and Duties

• Process payroll for employee groups assigned.
• Audit time for district employees.
• Review and verify payroll data imported from the district human resources department
• Prepare and maintain accurate records for assigned district employees.
• Communicate with administrators and supervisors to ensure accuracy of information reported.
• Respond to inquiries and resolve problems as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality of employee information.
• Other duties as assigned by the Payroll Manager or Director of Payroll.

• Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
• Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
• Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
• Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
• May work prolonged or irregular hours
• Work with frequent interruptions to meet established deadlines; maintain emotional control under stress
