Payroll Manager

A rapidly growing, private equity backed organization is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead end-to-end payroll operations for a large, multi-state workforce. This role will play a critical part in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing while supporting continued growth and operational scalability. Responsibilities Oversee full-cycle payroll processing for 1,000+ employees across multiple states Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and labor laws Serve as the primary owner and subject-matter expert for ADP Workforce Now Manage payroll audits, reconciliations, and year-end activities including W-2s and filings Partner closely with HR, Finance, and external vendors to ensure data accuracy and alignment Lead and develop payroll staff; establish best practices, controls, and documentation Drive process improvements, automation, and scalability in a high-growth environment Handle complex payroll issues including garnishments, multi-state taxation, and off-cycle payrolls Qualifications 5+ years of payroll leadership experience in a large, multi-state environment Proven experience managing payroll for 1,000+ employees Hands-on expertise with ADP Workforce Now Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, tax regulations, and audit processes Experience in a PE-backed, high-growth, or evolving organization preferred Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills Ability to partner cross-functionally and communicate effectively at all levels Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
