Streets Laborer

The City of Fairview Heights Public Works Department is hiring a full time Streets Laborer. The starting hourly wage is $32.11. Streets Laborer Local 148 SUMMARY OF POSITION Position includes all related labor and equipment operation involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the city streets in order to provide a safe and non-obstructed traffic flow. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Street maintenance including oiling and chipping, asphalt, concrete paving, other construction and repairs Installation and repairs of storm sewers Maintain City right-of-ways to include grass and weed cutting, tree and limb removal, clearing ditches of leaves and debris Sweeping of streets Snow removal from streets Storm damage removal and clearing of streets Bulk trash removal Installation and repair of street signs Grading and other construction work related to street maintenance Subject to 24 hour call out Other tasks that may be assigned by supervisor BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or equivalent Class A-CDL Drivers License preferred or the ability to obtain in six (6) months Six months experience in construction related activities Driving record acceptable to the City KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED Verbal communication skills Manual dexterity abilities Driving and equipment operations skills Ability to understand and follow directions Knowledge of street locations Ability to operate various types of equipment for street maintenance WORKING ENVIRONMENT The work environment is normally those encountered by outside weather conditions. It consists of manual labor such as lifting and shoveling. The employee may be exposed to paint, calcium chloride, asphalt, concrete and other chemicals. The employee also may be asked to work weekends and evenings. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to crawl into small areas, walk through mud, snow and water Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis Ability to lift overhead, bend at the waist, crouch and squat The City of Fairview Heights is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
