The ideal candidate has a minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a Lead Mechanic, Shop Foreman, or in a similar leadership role, along with extensive hands‑on diesel mechanic experience. They possess advanced diagnostic abilities, exceptional organizational and communication skills, experience managing heavy equipment maintenance operations, and the ability to perform and oversee complex repairs with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced shop environment. Key Responsibilities Lead, schedule, and coordinate the daily activities of shop mechanics to maximize productivity and equipment availability Perform advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repair on diesel trucks, heavy construction equipment, trailers, and support vehicles Prioritize repairs and preventative maintenance based on operational demands and equipment needs Conduct quality inspections to ensure repairs are completed safely and correctly before equipment is returned to service Help recruit, attract, and retain highly skilled mechanics by identifying talent, participating in the hiring process, mentoring employees, and creating an environment that supports professional growth, accountability, and long‑term success Mentor, train, and support mechanics by sharing technical knowledge and promoting best repair practices Troubleshoot and repair engine, transmission, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems through root‑cause analysis Monitor work orders, repair documentation, and preventative maintenance schedules for accuracy and completion Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop while ensuring compliance with company safety policies and OSHA standards Coordinate with Operations, Project Managers, Dispatch, and the Equipment Manager regarding repair priorities and equipment status Assist with field service support and emergency equipment repairs as needed Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED 3-5 years previous leadership and lead mechanic experience are required Proficient in after treatment diagnoses (knowledgeable of system operation) Strong experience diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy equipment Proven ability to prioritize work, manage multiple projects, and lead a team in a fast‑paced environment Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills Legally authorized to work in the United States Valid Virginia driver's license with a clean driving record Preferred Qualifications Experience managing or coordinating heavy equipment maintenance operations ASE certification or equivalent industry credentials Experience with CAT, John Deere, Komatsu, Peterbilt, Link‑Belt, and other heavy equipment manufacturers Familiarity with fleet maintenance software and digital work order systems CDL Class A or B, or ability to obtain Welding and fabrication experience Bilingual (Spanish) skills a plus Physical Requirements Ability to work in shop and field environments with exposure to noise, dust, grease, diesel exhaust, and varying weather conditions Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and perform physical repair work for extended periods Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs or more Ability to climb on and around heavy equipment and commercial vehicles Strong visual ability to diagnose mechanical issues and read technical information Ability to consistently wear and utilize all required personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with company and safety standards Ability to travel between job sites when necessary to support field repairs Why Join Us Full-time, stable leadership position with a respected family‑owned company serving the Greater Richmond region for over 50 years Opportunity to create and lead a growing team responsible for maintaining a diverse fleet of heavy construction equipment Hands‑on leadership role where your technical expertise and decision‑making directly impact company operations Collaborative, team‑oriented environment where leadership, craftsmanship, and accountability are valued Opportunities for long‑term career growth and advancement within the organization Competitive compensation based on experience Opportunities for career advancement and professional development Health, dental, and vision benefits 401(k) retirement plan with company match Paid time off and company holidays Supportive and team‑oriented work environment If you're an experienced diesel mechanic ready to take the next step into leadership—or an established Shop Foreman looking to join a company that values safety, teamwork, and technical excellence—we'd love to hear from you.
