Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of clinical and administrative duties including preparing patient for medical examination, charting medical histories, maintaining medical records, scheduling patient appointments and other clerical tasks. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from clinical services.

Performs physical examination preparations, point of care testing, vital signs, vaccines, phlebotomy, drug administration including injections, prescription verification with physician's orders, minor surgery assists, and bio-hazard waste disposal. Fulfills environmental responsibilities including restocking and cleaning exam/procedure rooms to maintain infection control, cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records. Fulfills clerical responsibilities including sending/receiving patient medical records, prior authorizations, referral information, etc., completing forms/requisitions, verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics, and managing and updating charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriately. Fulfills patient care responsibilities including scheduling and patient flow, assisting patients for exam preparation, collecting patient history, charting, and relaying instructions to patients. Adheres to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, quality control methods, and the MA scope of practice. Performs all other duties as assigned by management within job scope.

HS Diploma required. Prefer completion of formal MA, PCT, or EMT program. 1 year experience required. Graduation from formal program may be used in lieu of experience.
