Registrar-MSQ-Emergency Department - 2 Days (Variable Shifts Friday - Sunday)

Description The Registrar is responsible for the business aspect of the patient's visit to the Emergency Department as well as the patient-focused care delivery within the department. Activities include registration, insurance verification and notification, updating of financial and demographic information, reception, and other duties as assigned. Responsibilities Greet and direct patients, visitors, and staff. Answer telephones promptly and courteously. Direct calls to appropriate personnel and/or departments, take messages, and assure delivery of the same. Collect and distribute patient referral information received from affiliated physicians. Escort visitors and patients to appropriate areas; provide information to assist patients and/or visitors. Be open and responsive to the diverse backgrounds and experiences of others and promote an environment that is sensitive to cultural diversity. Distribute departmental reading material such as the Emergency Department brochure, Health Care Proxy, and Patient Bill of Rights. Ensure such documents are readily available. Register patients by updating or entering patient demographic, financial information, and emergency contact data into the computer system. Verify insurance coverage by interviewing the patient/family member/friend, using hospital systems and payer portals. Perform bedside patient registration, ensuring timely and accurate collection of all required demographic, insurance, and consent information. Collect copayments and other patient financial responsibilities at the point of service in accordance with hospital policies and payer requirements. Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA, EMTALA, and hospital privacy policies. According to policy and established procedure, generate patients’ charts and attach pertinent information such as Emerg Card, Medicaid threshold and EMS sheet, etc. According to policy and established procedure, review discharged patient charts for diagnosis, physician signature, dictation code, menu, and appropriate forms for completion. Enter data into the required computerized system. According to policy and established procedures, ensure that all papers, forms, etc., are stamped appropriately. Log patients on/in to the appropriate registration sheets/logs. Reconcile log books. Obtain signatures for consent. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education Requirement: High School Diploma or Equivalent Experience Requirements Strong computer skills and experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems. Ability to set priorities, solve problems, use proper judgment in difficult situations, and be flexible. Sufficient oral and writing skills in the English language to communicate effectively. Preferred Working knowledge of insurance plans and point-of-service collections. Minimum of 1 year experience in healthcare registration, patient access, or a related healthcare front‑desk role. Compensation The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $28.634 - $30.7024 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need.
