Instructor – Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (Katy) Location: Houston, TX Division: Pediatrics Work Arrangement: Exempt, on campus. Summary This position offers unique experience in our satellite pediatric intensive care unit for an individual who wishes to pursue a career in pediatric intensive care. The Critical Care Medicine section is a multidisciplinary team of attending physicians, advanced practice providers, and pediatric residents dedicated to caring for patients with life‑threatening conditions. The primary clinical site is Texas Children’s West Campus, an extension of the largest pediatric hospital in the United States and an affiliate of Baylor College of Medicine. The NP/PA will work alongside faculty and peers to care for children with chronic and acute illnesses requiring intensive care, including ventilatory support, nitric oxide administration, and cardiovascular pressor support. The satellite ICU also provides care for children requiring long‑term technology support or transition to home after pediatric intensive care. Job Purpose Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in a specialty area under the direction of a physician. Job Duties Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations. Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient. Prescribe appropriate pharmacological and non‑pharmacological treatments. Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts regarding status, treatments, and procedures. Monitor and ensure accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Provide follow‑up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician. Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care. Collaborate with providers and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Nurse Practitioner: Master’s degree in Nursing. Physician Assistant: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. (Bachelor’s degree accepted based on terminal degree requirements at time of graduation.) Certification/Licenses/Registration: Nurse Practitioner: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing; current Texas licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN‑NP); specialty certification as required by department. Physician Assistant: Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board; specialty certification as required by department. Experience Required: None. Work Authorization Requirement: This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
