About the Role This job administers anesthesia to patients during the performance of surgical, obstetrical, and other pain-producing clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician. It involves working in a collaborative model with residents, fellows, attendings, and staff who care for patients to ensure effective patient care. Education Required: Master's degree from a school of nurse anesthesia accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA). Work Experience Required: None. Certifications License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice. Certification through the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA). Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification from the American Heart Association. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process. Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on-call availability). Job Duties Documents patient procedures and incidents. Assesses patient before, during, and after administering anesthesia. Ensures patient safety and administers anesthesia following accepted practice techniques. Acts as a liaison to surgeons, anesthesiologists, co‑workers, patients, and families. Participates in department quality assurance initiatives and activities of professional development. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style. Performs other related duties as required. Compliance and Privacy Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations, and standards. Physical and Environmental Demands Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time. Duties routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area where exposure to communicable diseases is possible and may have occupational risk for hazardous medications or hazardous waste.
