What You'll Do

• Provide warm, respectful, and compassionate personal care to residents
• Follow each resident’s individualized service plan and assigned care instructions
• Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, and personal hygiene
• Assist residents with walking, mobility, positioning, and transfers
• Safely use approved mobility equipment and mechanical lifts after completing required training and demonstrating competency
• Provide meal assistance and support residents with dining needs when required
• Make beds, change linens, and assist with personal laundry
• Perform light housekeeping in resident living areas as assigned
• Offer companionship, reassurance, conversation, and emotional support
• Encourage residents to participate in meals, activities, outings, and community programs
• Assist with resident programs and activities when assigned
• Respond promptly to resident requests and emergency-call systems
• Observe residents for changes in physical condition, behavior, cognition, mood, appetite, mobility, or daily routine
• Promptly report resident changes, concerns, injuries, or incidents to the appropriate supervisor
• Obtain and document vital signs only when trained, determined competent, and assigned
• Document personal care, observations, and services accurately and promptly
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized resident living areas
• Identify and report safety hazards, maintenance concerns, and supply needs
• Promote resident independence, dignity, choice, and personal preferences
• Protect resident privacy, rights, personal information, and confidentiality
• Communicate respectfully with residents, families, visitors, and team members
• Follow infection-control, emergency, fire-safety, fall-prevention, and workplace-safety procedures
• Attend required orientation, meetings, training, and in-service education
• Complete additional resident-care duties permitted by the employee’s certification, training, demonstrated competency, and assigned role

What We're Looking For

• Current Virginia Certified Nurse Aide certification or completion of another approved Virginia direct-care qualification pathway
• Certification or qualification must remain current and in good standing when applicable
• Compassionate, patient, and dependable approach to resident care
• Genuine interest in working with older adults
• Ability to treat residents with dignity, respect, and kindness
• Ability to follow service plans, policies, safety procedures, and supervisory direction
• Strong observation, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, verbally and in writing, as required to understand care instructions, document services, report resident changes, and respond during emergencies
• Ability to work independently and as part of a Wellness team
• Strong organization and time-management skills
• Dependable attendance and punctuality
• Previous assisted living, memory care, senior care, home care, or healthcare experience is preferred
• Previous experience assisting with activities of daily living is preferred
• Experience supporting residents with dementia or memory impairment is preferred
• Basic computer skills and the ability to complete electronic documentation
• Current CPR or first-aid certification, if required by the community
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and remain active throughout the workday
• Ability to safely lift, transfer, push, or pull up to (physical requirement) pounds with assistance or available equipment
• Ability to successfully complete required background checks, health screenings, orientation, training, and employment requirements

Virginia Direct-Care Requirements

• Must meet one of the qualification pathways permitted for direct-care staff in a Virginia assisted living community
• Acceptable qualifications may include an active Virginia Nurse Aide certification or successful completion of an approved direct-care or personal-care training program
• Must complete all community orientation, resident-care training, competency reviews, and required in-service education
• May only perform duties permitted by the employee’s certification, completed training, demonstrated competency, resident service plan, supervision, and assigned role
• Must promptly report changes in resident condition and situations requiring nursing or medical judgment
• May not independently perform nursing assessments, develop nursing care plans, provide nursing diagnoses, or perform duties reserved for licensed nurses
• Vital signs and other health-related tasks may only be performed after appropriate training, competency verification, and assignment
• Medication administration is not automatically included in this position
• Employees who administer medications must hold an active Virginia Registered Medication Aide registration or another credential legally authorizing medication administration
• Must maintain all required certifications, registrations, background clearances, and employment qualifications
