Location: Milpitas, CA
Pay Rate: $32.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM
Work Location: On-site

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Instrument Test Technician 2 conducts production testing of assembled flow cytometers and related medical device products. This position may integrate systems and perform electronic, mechanical, optical, fluidic, and electromechanical activities on systems, subassemblies, and components to ensure products function according to specifications.

The technician performs system-level and subassembly-level troubleshooting to identify root causes and implement corrections for assembly or material defects. The role requires detailed technical knowledge, independent judgment, initiative, and the ability to work effectively with assemblers, technicians, QA personnel, and engineers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform instrument optimization after final assembly, including laser alignment, pressure adjustments, and electrical adjustments.
• Perform final production testing and inspection to verify products meet performance specifications and standards.
• Analyze test results from defective units to determine root cause of failures.
• Replace or repair defective components and assemblies and complete required documentation.
• Return units to assembly for repair when necessary.
• Compare test results against specifications and accurately record test data and plots.
• Generate documentation required to complete the Device History Record (DHR).
• Work with engineering support to resolve complex and unique testing or product issues.
• Read and understand detailed test instructions, assembly instructions, work orders, test results, Bills of Materials, Standard Operating Procedures, and other controlled documentation.
• Communicate with engineers, technicians, production personnel, and other departments regarding testing procedures, results, and troubleshooting.
• Develop and document troubleshooting techniques.
• Provide feedback regarding production and test methods, product design issues, quality, and operational efficiency.
• Support projects involving quality improvement, cost reduction, cycle time reduction, reliability improvement, operational efficiency, and new product introduction.
• Assist with creating and updating process and product documentation.
• Collaborate with team members and cross-functional groups to achieve departmental goals.
• Collect, document, and review key measurements and performance data.
• Review metrics regularly and work toward improving individual and team performance.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Complete timesheets, required paperwork, and training documentation accurately and on time.
• Maintain an up-to-date training file.
• Perform other assigned duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts including probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry.
• Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Good mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to reach, bend, and lift up to 35 lbs. daily.
• Experience using digital voltmeters (DVMs), oscilloscopes, and general test equipment.
• Strong PC or Mac experience with Windows and/or Mac OS.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Willingness to be trained in other production areas as needed.
• Knowledge of and adherence to safety procedures and programs.
• Exposure to ISO 9000 and cGMP 21 CFR Part 820.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Associate's degree (A.S.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
• 3+ years of related experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment.
• Experience working in a medical device manufacturing organization.
• Experience testing and troubleshooting laser-based optical systems, fluidic systems, and digital and analog circuitry.
• Extensive knowledge of PCs and networking environments.
• Strong experience with Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 9000 and cGMP 21 CFR Part 820.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma tools and concepts, and Demand Flow Technology (DFT).
• Strong experience with logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
