We provide a personalized memory and context layer by integrating into users' workspace data. About The Role As our founding platform engineer, your mission is to build the infrastructure that makes Hyperspell fast, reliable, and effortlessly scalable. You’ll own the foundation that our entire product is built on, ensuring customers trust us with their data. You’ll Tackle Challenges Like Scaling to the next order of magnitude – design and evolve systems to absorb 10× traffic increases without notice. Bulletproof data pipelines – build concurrency control, deduplication, and fault tolerance so every document is processed correctly, exactly once. Making it fast – profile, benchmark, and ruthlessly optimize to shave latency from search queries, eliminate bottlenecks, and make every API call feel instant. Observability that tells a story – build dashboards, traces, and alerts that let the team understand what's happening in production at a glance and get paged before customers notice. Infrastructure as a product – treat uptime, performance, and developer experience as features, not afterthoughts. What You’ll Do Within 30 days, map out our biggest bottlenecks and help us migrate legacy services to scalable alternatives. Within 60 days, spin up continuous monitoring across environments and use agentic AI to resolve problems before they arise. Within 90 days, build a scalable, distributed ETL pipeline for continuous ingestion and memory extraction that works for startup and enterprise clients. Requirements 3–5 years of experience in backend, platform, or infrastructure engineering. Strong fluency in Python. Deep understanding of databases, networking, and distributed systems. Experience operating production services on cloud infrastructure. Clarity of thought and excellent communication. Ability to work on location in San Francisco.
