Opportunity to Establish a New Psychiatry Residency Program in Missouri

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the inaugural Program Director for a new ACGME-accredited Psychiatry Residency Program, aiming to welcome its first cohort in 2028.

• Develop a program that will initially accommodate four residents per year, expanding to a total of sixteen residents over four years.

• Balance your role with approximately 50% dedicated to administrative leadership and 50% to clinical psychiatry.

• Establish the program's identity, culture, curriculum, faculty structure, clinical rotations, recruitment strategies, evaluation methods, and long-term academic standing.

• Shape the future of psychiatry while enhancing access to quality behavioral healthcare in the communities we serve.

A Collaborative Founding Role

• Become part of a large, nationally recognized nonprofit organization specializing in behavioral health, offering a comprehensive range of outpatient, inpatient, crisis, addiction, residential, and integrated-care services across multiple states.

• Utilize an existing ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency within the organization, benefiting from the support of experienced program leaders and residency administration professionals.

• Collaborate with a well-established regional hospital system for inpatient psychiatry and necessary clinical rotations.

• Engage in a thriving medical education landscape in Missouri, supported by a growing presence of regional medical schools.

• Obtain an academic faculty appointment through our partnership with the medical school.

• Work alongside executive and medical leadership, operational partners, program faculty, a residency coordinator, hospital collaborators, academic partners, and community stakeholders dedicated to the program's success.

Your Leadership and Clinical Role

• Lead the design, implementation, accreditation preparation, and ongoing evaluation of the Psychiatry Residency Program.

• Manage resident recruitment, selection, assessment, promotion, remediation, professional growth, and overall well-being.

• Create and uphold an ACGME-compliant curriculum that fosters clinical excellence, professionalism, scholarly engagement, and patient-centered care.

• Recruit, assess, develop, and mentor core and teaching faculty, fostering a strong culture of mentorship and accountability.

• Ensure timely and accurate reporting to the Designated Institutional Official, Graduate Medical Education Committee, and ACGME.

• Build strong relationships across the behavioral health system, regional hospital partners, the affiliated medical school, and other clinical and community organizations.

• Maintain an active clinical psychiatry practice, dedicating approximately half of your time to direct patient care.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

• M.D. or D.O. degree.

• Board certification in Psychiatry through the ABPN or AOBNP, or equivalent qualifications acceptable to the ACGME Review Committee.

• A minimum of three years of documented experience in graduate medical education involving leadership, teaching, or administration.

• Current DEA registration and ongoing clinical practice in psychiatry.

• Eligibility for medical licensure in Missouri and local hospital privileges.

Preferred Experience: Previous roles as Program Director, Associate Program Director, core faculty, clerkship or site director, medical director with teaching responsibilities, or similar graduate medical education leadership positions.
