Overview The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Academic Advisor, College of Sciences [R0151641]. We are seeking two full-time academic advisors in the College of Sciences Advising Center to support over 2500 major, minor, and prospective undergraduate students. The College comprises four departments and one school, offering 10 majors and 7 minors. As an Academic Advisor, you will provide comprehensive academic advising with a focus on holistic student care, working with the Director and advising staff to support students’ academic and career goals from matriculation onward. Responsibilities Provide academic advising services for major and minor degree programs within the College of Sciences (Chemistry and Biochemistry, Physics and Astronomy, Mathematical Sciences, Geoscience, and the School of Life Sciences). Conduct advising appointments with current majors, prospective students, and special populations using in-person meetings, virtual sessions, email, and group settings. Utilize advising philosophy to help students identify strengths, interests, and abilities, and interpret how these relate to majors and careers. Use excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage and build rapport with students from diverse backgrounds. Collaborate with colleagues in the advising community to support the implementation and execution of the college’s retention, completion, and progression (RPC) initiatives. Stay updated on college-specific information and post-graduation goals to provide accurate and relevant guidance to advisees. Represent the College in advising, college and university events, and participate in professional development opportunities. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. These positions report to the Associate Director of Advising. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or CHEA and one year of experience related to student success and support. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date. Preferred Qualifications Experience with software programs such as Salesforce (Rebel Success Hub), PeopleSoft (MyUNLV), Google Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience working with and supporting a diverse student population in a high-volume environment; experience with STEM students; presentation and content creation experience.
