\nJob Summary
\nThe Executive Clinical Director of the Musculoskeletal (MSK) Service Line is a clinical physician leader partnered with the AVP of Ambulatory Initiatives in a dyad working relationship to serve and lead the service line. In partnership with the MSK administrative leader, the Executive Clinical Director of the MSK Service Line is accountable for quality, service line growth and development, integration and informs clinical strategy and operational budget and capital allocation. The Executive Clinical Director will create and sustain a culture of patient centeredness emphasizing quality, safety, and efficiency. As a member of the dyad for musculoskeletal services this role is responsible for the design and implementation of novel models of care, alternative payment model programs, and equitable distribution of resources (space, staff, funding). This role will be responsible for maintaining the appropriate alignment with key Health System-wide initiatives, respective clinical chairs, and UTSW clinical partners (e.g. Texas Health Resources) ensuring that activities within the system, operating unit, and regional strategy are integrated within ambulatory and acute resources.
\nThe Executive Clinical Director will also act as an advocate for and liaison to referring physicians, ensuring that the service line is responsive to their needs and concerns. This role will actively promote the service line’s multidisciplinary approach to patient care as a leader in innovative and collaborative models of care. This position will report to the Senior Executive Officer of Ambulatory Services and will be accountable to the Musculoskeletal Oversight Committee. The incumbent in this role will have a primary faculty appointment in one for the Departments included in the service line and aligned with his/her specialty training and practice.

Position Highlights

- Partners with Department Chairs and Division Chiefs to provide a unified connection to the operation of the service line and works with them to support the provision and recruitment of appropriate physician/provider coverage to meet demands for service in a timely fashion, to maintain/promote a multidisciplinary, disease-oriented team model of care and to provide exemplary customer service throughout the service line operations. \n

- Connects and collaborates the clinical operations working with the MSK administrative leader and other professionals, including pharmacy, clinical laboratory, advanced practice provider and nursing leaders, to ensure maximum quality, access, new patient volumes, efficiency, and effectives. \n

- Mentors and supports clinical staff, fostering professional growth and a culture of collaboration. Encourages interdisciplinary teamwork and communication across the service line. \n

- Monitors and ensures optimal clinical performance metrics relative to patient access and satisfaction as well as referring physician satisfaction. Takes and/or recommends remedial action in consultation with Medical Directors, Division Directors, and Department Chairs, as appropriate. \n

- Serves as a service line liaison with all Clinical Departments, Health System Leadership, Hospital and Ambulatory Administration regarding operational and clinical issues. \n

- Promotes a culture of academic excellence by supporting research initiatives and the integration of evidence-based practices into clinical workflows. Engages in teaching activities for residents, fellows, and medical students. \n

- Actively promotes an environment to improve processes, optimize the quality of care, enhance patient satisfaction while maximizing margins, and reduce waste and expenses. \n

- Champions quality assurance and quality improvement; takes action to promote patient and staff safety. Identifies quality of care deficiencies and leads/participates in quality improvement initiatives. \n

- With direction from the MSK Oversight Committee, develops strategic plans, seeks, collaborates, and capitalizes on new business development opportunities for improving or expanding the service line in response to the needs of the community and the patients served. \n

- In collaboration with the administrative leader and with direction from the MSK Oversight Committee and other relevant parties (e.g., Budget/Finance, Marketing/Communications, Development, Clinical Research Office, etc.) actively participates in development of strategies that use market assessments to make recommendations aimed at higher margin growth, effective marketing/branding campaigns, and national rankings. \n
Qualifications

- Eligible candidates must hold a primary faculty appointment in one of the following departments: Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine, while holding a concurrent health system leadership appointment. For faculty applying from the disciplines of Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, training and practice in sports medicine is required. \n

- Proven senior clinical leadership experience in a musculoskeletal (MSK) or related service line, with a demonstrated ability to drive program growth, optimize operations, and improve quality and patient outcomes across a complex health system. \n

- Strong leadership and consensus building skills with the ability to advance and develop a superior clinical service. \n
- \n
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for both clinical and non-clinical audiences, in group settings, or one-on-one. \n
- \n
- Expertise in establishing physician relationships combined with the ability to collaborate with and manage in an interdisciplinary team. \n
- \n
- Effective supervisory skills, including clinical mentoring, faculty development, and coaching expertise. \n
